Chapter 10 - The Last Heir’s Promise

The winter snow began to fall softly, dusting the rooftops of the estate in a blanket of pristine, untouched white.
I sat by the large picture window in the grand study, watching the snowflakes drift past the glass while a gentle fire crackled in the stone hearth.
Leo climbed up onto the sofa beside me, curling his small body into my lap, his eyelids heavy with sleep after a long day of playing in the snow outside.
“Mommy?” he whispered softly, his thumb resting near his chin before he caught himself and pulled his hand away with a proud little grin.
“Yes, my little man?” I asked, wrapping a soft woolen blanket around his shoulders.
“Is this our house now forever?” he asked, looking up at me with those big, bright eyes that looked so much like his father’s.
“It’s our home, sweetie,” I said, kissing the top of his head as the fire cast a warm, golden glow across the room. “And nobody will ever make you feel small in it again. Because we built this place on something stronger than money, stronger than pride, and stronger than any wall they tried to build against us.”
