Chapter 8 - The Final Fall

The heavy oak doors of the federal courthouse slammed shut behind Richard Sterling as he stormed down the stone steps, his legal team scurrying behind him like rats fleeing a sinking ship.
The flashbulbs blinded him instantly. Reporters swarmed around him, thrusting microphones in his face.
*“Mr. Sterling! Is it true you tried to disinherit your own cousin?”*
*“Did you fabricate financial documents to sabotage the trust?”*
Richard shoved past them in a blind panic, diving into the backseat of his waiting town car and slamming the door shut. "Drive! Just drive!" he yelled at the chauffeur.
Back inside the courtroom, the atmosphere was entirely different.
Sarah wiped a tear from her eye, leaning her head against her father’s shoulder as Arthur wrapped a comforting arm around her. Leo grinned brightly, handing Arthur a small candy wrapper he had folded into the shape of a paper boat.
"You really had that paper ready the whole time, didn't you, Dad?" Sarah whispered, a soft, genuine smile touching her lips for the first time in years.
"I taught you how to read contracts, Sarah," Arthur chuckled softly, kissing the top of her head. "Did you really think I wouldn't check my own family charter before bringing you home?"
Later that evening, back at the magnificent Harrison estate overlooking the city lights, the grand dining room was warm, filled with the rich aroma of roasted meat and fresh flowers. There were no board members. There were no corporate vultures.
Just a grandfather, a daughter, and a young boy sitting together at a table that was finally large enough for everyone.
As Leo reached across the table to grab another pastry, Arthur smiled warmly, handing him the silver-and-onyx cufflink he had removed earlier that day.

"Keep this, son," Arthur said softly. "It belongs to the next head of the family."
