Chapter 3 - The Vault of Hidden Documents

Down in the subterranean executive study of the Sterling manor, Alexander sat behind a massive mahogany desk, reviewing stacks of legal documents alongside his chief corporate attorney, Marcus Vance. On the sleek monitor in front of them, security footage from the foyer looped silently, capturing every cruel word and malicious shove Veronica had directed at Sofia.
“The expulsion order has been executed successfully, Mr. Sterling,” Marcus reported, sliding a tablet across the desk. “Veronica and her mother have been removed from the premises, and their access codes to the family accounts have been permanently revoked.”
Alexander nodded slowly, though his jaw remained tightly clenched. “And the inheritance trust?”
“Strictly airtight,” Marcus answered, tapping the screen. “According to the original ironclad stipulations laid down by your father, any direct descendant or family member who commits acts of proven malice, physical abuse, or intentional sabotage against the true primary heir is automatically and permanently disinherited from the trust. Veronica’s actions today triggered that clause instantly. She doesn't just lose her bedroom; she loses every single cent of the Sterling fortune.”
A profound sense of relief washed over Alexander, mixed with a bitter wave of regret for not uncovering the abuse sooner. For months, he had been traveling extensively for corporate mergers, trusting the household management to Veronica’s mother while remaining blind to the quiet cruelty inflicted upon Sofia behind closed doors. But that blindness was gone forever.
Upstairs in the private family suites, Sofia sat comfortably in a plush armchair, sipping hot chocolate while Rosalie, the loyal head nanny who had secretly protected Sofia for years, brushed her hair. The stain of the shoe polish was gone, washed away by warm soap and water, but the emotional scars reminded Alexander of how close he had come to losing his daughter to the toxicity of greed.

“She’s safe now, Mr. Sterling,” Rosalie said softly as Alexander walked into the room. “She knows she’s home.”
