Chapter 2 - The Heir Apparent Discovered

The silence that followed the dropping of the apron was heavy enough to suffocate everyone in the room. Veronica shifted uncomfortably on her heels, finally sensing a strange shift in the air that her narcissism had previously blinded her to. Alexander stood up slowly, towering over her, his dark eyes burning with an icy, controlled fury that made the grand hallway feel like a deep freezer.

“Do you have any idea whose uniform you just forced her to wear?” Alexander asked, his voice dangerously low.

Veronica scoffed, trying to mask her sudden nervousness with a dismissive wave of her hand. “It’s just something from the housekeeping quarters! Who cares? Her mother is just one of the estate staff, anyway—she belongs down here scrubbing floors, not wandering around the main halls acting like she owns the place!”

“Her mother was my legally wedded wife, and Sofia is my only biological child and sole blood heir to the entire Sterling empire,” Alexander roared, the words striking the room like a thunderclap.

Veronica’s jaw dropped, her face turning chalk-white as the terrifying reality crashed down upon her. For years, her mother had plotted and schemed to integrate into the Sterling household, pushing Sofia and her mother into the shadows and treating them like indentured servants while pretending to be the doting family. Veronica had believed she was the undisputed princess of the estate, destined to inherit every penny of the multi-billion-dollar fortune.

Instead, she had just publicly abused, degraded, and physically assaulted the true heir to the throne on the exact day Alexander was set to file the final legal papers ratifying Sofia’s birthright.

“Daddy—I mean, Mr. Sterling—I didn't know—!” Veronica stammered, stepping backward until her spine hit the mahogany wall.

“Security!” Alexander bellowed, his voice echoing through the mansion. Within seconds, four heavy-set security guards in sharp black suits poured into the foyer from the perimeter doors. “Escort this girl and her mother off my property immediately. Throw every single one of their belongings out onto the public street. And if either of them ever sets foot within five miles of this estate again, ensure the trespass charges are filed before the hour is out.”
