Chapter 15 - The Unbroken Sunrise

The sun dipped slowly below the horizon, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of violet, amber, and brilliant gold.
I looked from the architectural blueprint up into Marcus’s loving eyes, feeling my chest swell with absolute, unadulterated joy.
"You planned all of this," I whispered, a wide, radiant smile breaking across my face.
"I planned for our future from the moment I saw you standing in that dark hallway," Marcus replied softly, his voice thick with deep emotion. "You survived every storm they threw at you, Sarah. You endured the cold, the iron, and the cruelty, and you emerged stronger, brighter, and more magnificent than ever."

I leaned in, wrapping my arms around his neck and pressing my lips against his in a tender, lingering kiss that washed away every remaining shadow of the past.
Down on the streets below, the city moved with its endless, beautiful rhythm. The nightmare of the kitchen floor, the empty hospital chair, and the flying skillet was a lifetime away. Standing together in the brilliant spring sunlight, hand in hand and heart to heart, I knew with absolute certainty that I was finally, beautifully, unshakeably home.
