Chapter 4 - The Raid and the Betrayal Within the Boardroom**

"Police! Nobody move!" Captain Miller’s authoritative voice echoed through the high-ceilinged foyer as half a dozen armed officers swarmed into the drawing room with tactical gear and flashlights drawn. Chaos erupted instantly. Mason lunged toward the French doors leading to the back garden, but two officers tackled him into a display cabinet, sending antique vases crashing down around them. Paige shrieked and curled into a fetal position on the sofa, while Florence stared blankly ahead, muttering curses under her breath. Brenda made a desperate dash for her designer handbag on the console table, pulling out a small Glock pistol, but I moved faster, tackling her to the floor and pinning her wrist against the floorboards until an officer kicked the weapon away and slapped steel cuffs onto her wrists.

"Brenda Vance, Mason Pendelton, and Florence Pendelton, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit premeditated murder, corporate fraud, and unlawful confinement," Captain Miller declared, reading them their rights as they were hauled up off the floor one by one. As Brenda was dragged past me, her hair disheveled and mascara streaking her cheeks, she turned her head and spat a bloody curse at my feet. "You think you've won, Conrad? Check your corporate email! The board of directors held an emergency vote while you were at the hospital! Pendelton Enterprises isn't yours anymore—we already voted you out as CEO!"

A cold shiver ran down my spine. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and unlocked the screen. A flashing push notification from our corporate secretary popped up: NOTICE OF EXECUTIVE TERMINATION: By majority vote of the board of directors, Conrad Pendelton has been stripped of executive authority effective immediately, pending psychological evaluation and incapacitation status. I stared at the screen in utter disbelief. The board of directors—men and women I had worked with, dined with, and trusted for fifteen years—had just staged a corporate coup in tandem with my family’s murder plot.

Captain Miller noticed my pale expression and walked over, placing a supportive hand on my shoulder. "Mr. Pendelton, we found something else when we raided Brenda's office at the corporate headquarters downtown. It wasn't just a family dispute. Your board members—specifically Vice President Harrison and CFO Sterling—were directly implicated in the financial wire transfers. They helped launder the stolen capital in exchange for buying up your company shares at a slashed rate once you were declared a grieving, incapacitated widower." The betrayal cut deeper than any physical wound. My entire life—my company, my family, my marriage—had been built on a foundation of quicksand, engineered by wolves wearing designer suits.

"Where are Harrison and Sterling right now?" I asked, my voice terrifyingly calm. Captain Miller checked his radio. "They're currently chairing an emergency shareholder meeting on the top floor of the Pendelton Tower downtown to finalize the hostile takeover." I looked back at my mother and brother, who were being led out in handcuffs, sneering at me with pure hatred. Then I looked at my phone screen, watching the countdown timer on the hostile takeover vote. I wasn't just going to rescue my wife; I was going to walk into that boardroom and take back everything they had stolen.
