Chapter 5 - The True Marksman**

An hour after the command structure had finished cleaning up the mess left by Collins’s spectacular downfall, the firing line had grown quiet once more. The desert heat was beginning to peak, casting a shimmering mirage across the distant mountains.
I stood beside the cleaning station, wiping down the bolt of the Barrett M107 with a clean rag.
Footsteps approached softly from behind. I looked up to see Chloe walking over, holding a clipboard containing her firing logs and trajectory calculations.
“Good shooting today, kid,” I said, offering a rare, approving nod. “You made a believer out of a lot of people who should have known better from the start.”
Chloe offered a small, quiet smile, though her expression remained humble and focused. “I didn't shoot to prove anything to them, Master Chief. I shot because the math worked.”
I handed her a clean microfiber cloth to wipe down her optics. “You know, what you did out there today wasn't just about hitting a steel plate at forty-four hundred yards. You broke a psychological barrier that most shooters spend a lifetime trying to overcome.”
She took the cloth, her fingers brushing against mine. “Does this mean I’m done cleaning latrines for the rest of the basic training cycle?”
I let out a low, genuine laugh, shaking my head. “Don't push your luck, Henderson. You might be a generational marksman, but you’re still a recruit until graduation day.”
She grinned, turning back toward the range where the target plate still gleamed in the harsh sunlight.
Down the road, an unmarked military vehicle was pulling away from the compound, carrying a disgraced commander toward a very long, very uncomfortable future behind bars. But out here on the firing line, the dust was settling, the air was clear, and a new standard had been set.

They had tried to use an impossible distance to break her. Instead, she used it to engrave her name into the history books.
And as I watched her check her windage turrets one final time, I knew one thing with absolute certainty: nobody on any firing line in the United States military would ever underestimate an invisible girl with a calculator and a rifle ever again.
