Chapter 4 - Chaos in the Ballroom

Panic erupted instantly among the socialites. Screams bounced off the crystal chandeliers as heavy footsteps echoed from the main foyer. Four masked men burst through the security doors, automatic weapons raised, led by a tall figure in a dark tactical vest.
"Nobody move!" the leader roared, his voice cutting through the panic like a knife. "Hands on your heads! This is a hostile takeover!"
Sienna let out a piercing shriek, dropping her glass of champagne as it shattered on the marble floor, spraying crystal and liquid everywhere. She scrambled backward, abandoning Dante instantly, hiding behind a wealthy shipping magnate as if shielding herself with human collateral. "Don't shoot me! Take whatever you want! Take him!" she sobbed, completely exposing her true, cowardly nature.
Dante didn't flinch. He stood alone in the center of the ballroom, his hands relaxed at his sides, his expression turning into a mask of pure, glacial fury. Not at the gunmen, but at the betrayal.
"Well, well, well," the lead gunman sneered, stepping forward and leveling his rifle directly at Dante’s chest. "End of the line, Marcel. Your little empire is finished. The board voted you out, and your precious fiancée signed off on the liquidation."
Sienna sobbed from behind the pillar, not even denying it.
The gunman cocked his weapon, his finger tightening on the trigger. Time seemed to slow down to a crawl. The elite guests cowered in fear, paralyzed. Nobody moved. Nobody breathed.
Except for me.
While everyone else was frozen in terror, my paralegal training and survival instincts kicked into overdrive. I was standing right beside the heavy service door near the back of the ballroom—the exact blind spot the gunmen had ignored because they only viewed me as background static. On the wall beside the door was the manual master override switch for the penthouse security shutters and the emergency panic lock.
Without a single sound, I dropped my tray of champagne flutes. Clatter.
The sudden noise snapped the lead gunman’s head toward me. "What the hell—shoot the maid!" he yelled, swinging his rifle in my direction.
In that fraction of a second, I slammed my hand down onto the heavy red emergency lever and yanked it upward with all my weight.
CLANG!
Massive, steel-reinforced security shutters slammed down over every single window and exit in the ballroom, plunging the room into total lockdown and trapping the intruders inside an inescapable cage. At the exact same second, hidden wall turrets and automated tactical flash-bangs—triggered by the master override—detonated with a blinding, deafening white flash.
The gunmen screamed, dropping their weapons as they clutched their blinded eyes.
Before they could recover, Dante moved with terrifying, lethal speed. In three fluid strides, he crossed the room, disarming the lead gunman with a brutal sweep of his leg and pinning him to the floor with the heel of his shoe, a pistol materializing in his hand pointing directly between the man's eyes.

Within thirty seconds, Viktor and the loyal security detail swarmed the room, neutralizing the remaining intruders. Total silence descended on the ballroom once more, save for the heavy breathing of terrified guests.
Dante slowly stood up, brushing a speck of dust off his tuxedo jacket. He didn't look at Sienna, who was still trembling on the floor. Instead, his dark, intense eyes slowly swept across the room until they locked onto me, standing quietly beside the service door, my uniform slightly wrinkled, my breathing completely calm.
