Chapter 5 - The King Reclaims His Throne

Within forty-eight hours, the Corvino syndicate was thoroughly cleansed of rot. Dominic and his co-conspirators were transferred directly to a maximum-security federal penitentiary, facing multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole for racketeering, conspiracy, and attempted murder. Arya, stripped of every single cent, her designer clothes replaced by standard county orange jumpsuits, found herself sitting in a holding cell, abandoned by everyone she had ever manipulated.

The Manhattan estate returned to absolute, undisputed peace.

Three weeks after the raid, the morning sun poured brilliantly through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the master penthouse suite. The air no longer smelled of toxic tuberose perfume; instead, it carried the rich, comforting scent of fresh-brewed espresso and blooming gardenias.

Vincent sat by the window in his tailored suit, reviewing international shipping manifests on his tablet. The rehabilitation therapists were working with him three times a week, and though his legs remained paralyzed, experimental neural-stimulant trials had begun showing faint signs of sensory recovery. He was a man reborn, tempered by fire and betrayal.

A soft knock echoed at the door, and Tessa walked in. She was no longer wearing her maid's uniform. Instead, she wore a sharp, professional navy-blue federal suit, her hair styled loosely around her shoulders.

"The U.S. Attorney’s office just signed off on the final asset forfeiture sweep," Tessa said, holding a manila folder as she walked over to his desk. "Your shipping ports and construction syndicates are fully restored under your direct control, completely purged of compromise."

Vincent looked up from his tablet, his dark eyes softening as they met hers. He reached out, taking the folder from her hands, but instead of letting go, his fingers gently brushed against hers.

"You're leaving the estate," Vincent stated, a quiet, unusual note of vulnerability in his gravelly voice.

Tessa offered a warm, genuine smile. "My undercover operation here is officially closed, Mr. Corvino. I have a new desk waiting for me down at the federal plaza."

Vincent slowly wheeled himself closer to her, stopping just inches away. He looked up at the woman who had treated him like royalty when everyone else treated him like a burden, who had stood by his side through war and treachery without flinching once.

"An empire is nothing without a queen, Tessa," Vincent murmured softly, his gaze locked intensely into hers. "And a king doesn't let the only person who ever truly saw him walk away. Stay. Help me rebuild."

Tessa’s breath hitched slightly, a soft, radiant flush touching her cheeks. She looked down at his outstretched hand, then back up into his fierce, devoted eyes. She didn't hesitate. She placed her hand firmly in his, a brilliant smile breaking across her face.

"Only if I get to keep treating you like royalty," Tessa whispered.

Vincent let out a low, genuine laugh—a sound that echoed through the penthouse like a promise of a brand new era—and pulled her close, ready to rule the world all over again.
