Chapter 2 - The Viper in the Inner Circle

By the third month of Tessa’s employment, the dynamic within the Corvino estate had devolved into open neglect. While Arya spent her days attending high-society galas and planning an extravagant wedding with Dominic—Vincent’s ambitious second-in-command who was quietly consolidating power behind his back—Tessa remained the only steady pillar of light in Vincent's dark world.
Every morning at 7:00 AM sharp, Tessa arrived with fresh coffee, a balanced breakfast, and a quiet determination. She didn't just perform her nursing duties; she treated him like a king. She read him the financial news, helped him review encrypted digital portfolios on his tablet, and listened when he muttered strategies under his breath. She never judged his sudden bursts of frustration, nor did she flinch when the physical pain drove him to absolute fury.
One rainy Tuesday afternoon, Dominic brazenly strode into Vincent’s private master suite without knocking, trailing a plume of expensive cologne and accompanied by two heavy-set bodyguards. Arya trailed behind him, looking flushed and guilty.
"Vince, old buddy," Dominic drawled, flashing a predatory, shark-like smile as he stepped up to the edge of the bed. He didn't even bother looking Vincent in the eye, instead dropping a thick stack of legal documents onto the duvet right over Vincent's paralyzed legs. "Look, we’ve talked about this. You're out of commission. The syndicate needs leadership, and the harbor front acquisition needs immediate sign-off. Just initial these transfer papers, and let me handle the heavy lifting."
Vincent didn't touch the papers. He slowly raised his head from the pillow, his dark eyes locking onto Dominic with a terrifying, frozen intensity that made the younger man involuntarily take a half-step back.
"Those papers sign over fifty percent of my maritime shipping routes to your shell corporation, Dominic," Vincent said, his voice dropping into a lethal, gravelly whisper. "You aren't taking over leadership. You're attempting a coup while my legs are broken."
Dominic’s smile vanished, replaced by a flash of naked hostility. He leaned over the bed, planting his palms on the mattress dangerously close to Vincent's legs. "Listen to me, you crippled relic," Dominic hissed, his voice dropping so Arya wouldn't catch the full venom. "You're done. Finished. Nobody takes orders from a man who wets his bed and can't stand up to wipe his own face. Sign the papers, or we'll make sure your little nurse here has an unfortunate accident on her way home tonight."
Across the room, Tessa froze while folding a stack of towels. Her hands clenched tight, but she kept her face lowered, expertly concealing the flash of pure fury in her eyes.
Before Vincent could launch into a lethal verbal tirade, Arya stepped forward, her face twisted in disgust. "Stop being so paranoid, Vince! Dominic is just trying to help us secure our financial future! You're ruining everything with your bitter, paranoid delusions! Just sign the damn papers so we can move on with our lives!"
Vincent stared at the woman he had once planned to marry, seeing the utter rot beneath her polished surface. She wasn't just negligent; she was actively conspiring with Dominic to steal his empire and discard him into a nursing home the moment the ink dried.
"Get out of my room," Vincent commanded, his voice echoing with the authority of an absolute monarch. "All of you. Before I forget that I can't walk and find a way to bury you right here."
Dominic sneered, snatching the papers back off the bed. "You have forty-eight hours, Vince. After that, we won't ask."

As the heavy oak door slammed shut behind them, the room plunged into a tense, heavy silence. Vincent closed his eyes, his chest heaving with impotent rage. For the first time, he felt completely trapped. But as he opened his eyes, he saw Tessa standing beside the bed. She wasn't trembling. Instead, she reached down, picked up his tablet, and quietly tapped the screen.
"Mr. Corvino," Tessa said softly, her voice steady and chillingly calm. "While you were talking to Mr. Dominic, I mirrored his briefcase security feed onto your private server. Do you want to see who he's been texting?"
