Chapter 3 - The Friday Confrontation**

Friday afternoon arrived with pale autumn sunlight breaking through the clouds. True to their word, Richard, Teresa, Ethan, and Karla pulled up to Audrey’s house in a noisy caravan. They strode up the front walkway with an air of arrogant entitlement, clearly believing that Audrey’s silence over the past few days meant she had broken completely under their psychological warfare.

Richard hammered his fist loudly against the front door. A moment later, the lock clicked, and Audrey pulled the door open. She stood tall, her split lip mostly healed, her expression entirely devoid of fear or submission.

“Took you long enough to answer,” Richard sneered, pushing past her into the foyer without an invitation. The rest of the family trailed in behind him like a pack of wolves smelling blood.

Ethan grinned smugly, tossing the stolen Mercedes keys up in the air and catching them. “See? Cooler heads prevail. Now, where is the deed and David’s financial ledger? We don't have all day. I have to take Karla out to dinner using the cash accounts we're going to liquidate.”

Teresa walked into the living room, already eyeing up the antique display cabinet. “Honestly, Audrey, you should be thanking us. You couldn't handle managing an estate of this size on your own anyway. We’re taking over responsibility for the house, the remaining bank funds, and everything else your husband left behind.”

Audrey crossed her arms, watching them tear into their delusions of absolute conquest. She didn't yell. She didn't cry. She simply walked over to the living room media console, plugged a small flash drive into the smart television port, and clicked a remote button.

Instantly, the 65-inch screen lit up in crystal-clear 4K resolution.

The video began playing with pristine audio. It showed Richard walking up her driveway on Tuesday afternoon, screaming threats, and violently striking her across the face. It captured her crashing against the brick wall. It showed Richard dragging her across the patio and throwing her onto the wet lawn. It played Ethan emptying her purse, stealing the keys, and Karla laughing while recording the entire felony assault on her phone.

The room went dead silent. The color drained completely from Richard’s face, leaving him looking like a ghost. Ethan froze, the Mercedes keys slipping from his fingers to bounce harmlessly on the hardwood floor. Teresa gasped, her hands flying to her mouth as the audio of their cruel, predatory dialogue echoed off the walls.

“What... what is this?” Richard stammered, taking a panicked step backward.

“That is 4K evidence of felony assault, robbery, grand theft auto, and criminal trespassing,” a calm, authoritative voice spoke from the doorway.

Everyone whipped around. Stephen Vance walked into the living room, accompanied by two uniformed local police officers and a state trooper. The officers’ hands rested purposefully near their utility belts as they stepped inside, sealing off all exits.

“Richard Vance? Ethan Vance?” the lead police officer asked, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his tactical vest. “You are under arrest for felony domestic assault, robbery, and grand theft. Turn around and place your hands behind your back.”

“This is a mistake! She’s our daughter! It’s a family dispute!” Teresa shrieked, lunging toward Audrey with a clawed hand outstretched.

“Don't you dare touch her,” Stephen warned, stepping squarely between them. “Every single interaction you have had with Audrey for the past five years has been documented. But that’s just the criminal side of things. Your real nightmare hasn't even started yet.”
