Chapter 2 - The Evidence and the Attorney**

Audrey sat in the quiet glow of David’s home office, playing the surveillance footage three separate times. The first time she watched it, deep sobs wracked her body, and she buried her face in her hands. The second time, hot tears dried up, replaced by a cold, calculating rage that hardened her veins. The third time, she sat with clinical detachment, taking meticulous, time-stamped notes of every criminal act committed.

One camera angle clearly captured Richard’s hand striking her face with unprovoked malice. A second angle recorded him dragging her across the patio like trash. A third camera documented Ethan dumping her purse, stealing the key fob, and speeding away in the Mercedes while Karla grinned and recorded it on video. The high-fidelity audio system had picked up every word, including Richard’s chilling parting threat demanding the house deed by Friday. David had installed the state-of-the-art security grid six months prior, complete with automated cloud backups that rendered any attempt at destruction completely useless.

Without hesitation, Audrey picked up her phone and dialed Stephen Vance—no relation to David, but a fierce, highly respected estate attorney whom David had wisely saved in her emergency contacts.

“My family just assaulted me on my own property and stole my late husband’s car,” Audrey stated, her voice shockingly calm and steady.

On the other end of the line, Stephen’s professional tone instantly turned sharp and protective. “Audrey? Are you somewhere safe right now? Do you need an ambulance?”

“I’m safe inside the house, and my injuries are minor. But I have every second of what they did captured on high-definition security footage.”

“Do not delete, alter, or touch the source files,” Stephen instructed firmly. “Do not answer their calls, do not respond to their text messages, and do not let them back inside. Send the raw video files directly to my encrypted server right now.”

Within twenty minutes, Stephen called her back. The professional outrage in his voice was palpable. “I have the files, Audrey. This isn't just a civil dispute over property; this is felony robbery, physical assault, and domestic extortion. We have them dead to rights. Furthermore, because the Mercedes was purchased solely with David’s pre-marital business capital and registered exclusively in his name prior to probate settlement, Ethan’s joyride constitutes grand theft auto. How do you want to handle this? Do we drop the hammer now, or do we let them walk right into a bigger trap?”

Audrey stared out the rain-streaked window, thinking of the years of emotional abuse, financial blackmail, and physical intimidation her family had subjected her to. “Let’s build the biggest cage possible, Stephen. Let them think they’ve won until Friday. Because I happen to know something else about my father's business that they are desperately trying to hide.”
