Chapter 10 - The Horizon Ahead

One year after the trial, I stood alone on the teak deck of a newly chartered yacht, watching the golden sun dip below the horizon off the coast of Key West.

The sea was calm, glittering like scattered diamonds under the twilight sky. The salty breeze whipped my hair across my face, carrying the clean, crisp scent of salt and freedom.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and glanced at the screen. It was an email from the corporate restructuring committee confirming that the Vance-Sterling Foundation had successfully acquired three major philanthropic clean-water initiatives across the globe, fully funded by the seized assets of the Sterling estate.

We had turned stolen blood money into a legacy of life.

I slipped the phone back into my pocket, walked over to the starboard railing, and rested my hands on the cool polished wood.

My father had offered to sell the yacht after the incident, convinced the memories would haunt me. But I had refused. You don't run away from the places where you almost died; you reclaim them until they belong to you.

I looked out at the endless expanse of the dark blue ocean stretching out before me.

They had planned to push me into the dark and silence me forever. Instead, they had handed me the wheel of an entire empire.

May you like

I smiled, took a deep breath of the ocean air, and watched the horizon burn into the night.

Let them try to sink me. I was the captain now.
