Midnight Overboard / Chapter 1 / 10

Chapter 1 - Husband whisper

On the third night of my honeymoon cruise, I got so sick that I left dinner early and went back to our suite for medicine.

I thought I was seasick.

Then I heard my husband planning my murder.

Flynn had been the perfect husband since we boarded the luxury yacht my father had given us as a wedding gift.

He brought me tea when I felt dizzy.

He tucked blankets around me when I became unusually tired.

And every night, he handed me two small white pills and said:

“These will help with the motion sickness.”

I trusted him.

Until I heard his voice coming from the lounge below our balcony.

I was about to call out to him when I heard his father ask:

“Is she weak enough for tonight?”

I froze.

Flynn laughed softly.

“Two pills every night. I put more in her soup today. By midnight, she’ll barely be able to stand.”

My hand tightened around the railing.

Then his mother asked:

“And you’re sure nobody will see?”

“There’s a storm coming,” Flynn replied. “I’ll take her to the back deck for fresh air. One push, and the ocean does the rest.”

I stopped breathing.

They were talking about me.

My own husband was planning to throw me overboard on our honeymoon.

Then his father asked the question that made everything even worse.

“What about the money?”

Flynn answered without hesitation.

“Once she’s declared dead, I’ll control what I need. Three hundred million dollars.”

Three hundred million.

My family’s fortune.

Suddenly, the pills made sense.

My weakness made sense.

Even the documents Flynn had casually asked me to sign before the wedding no longer felt innocent.

But then his mother mentioned my parents.

“What happens when they start asking questions?”

Flynn was quiet for a moment.

Then he said:

“They won’t be asking questions for long.”

My knees nearly gave out.

I realized they weren’t only planning to get rid of me.

They had a plan for my parents too.

I crawled back into our suite before anyone saw me and reached for the one thing Flynn didn’t know I had brought aboard—a hidden prepaid phone my father had insisted I carry for emergencies.

I turned on the recorder.

Then I heard footsteps approaching our door.

May you like

Flynn was coming back.

And I had only a few hours before midnight."
