Chapter 5 - Justice in the Moonlight**

I stood up, shaking the dirt and dust from my clothes, my breath coming in ragged gasps. The moonlight cast a sharp, silver glow over my face, revealing the absolute seriousness in my eyes.
“You shouldn’t have come back,” I said, my voice cutting through their laughter like a razor blade.
Brad rolled his eyes, stepping forward with an arrogant smirk. “Oh, look at the little freak, trying to act tough. Did you drop your phone down there, or did you just wet your pants?”
“I didn't drop anything,” I replied coldly, stepping back from the opening. “Go down and look for yourself. Your new crew photo is waiting on the shelf.”
Before any of them could process my words, a dark, heavy figure lunged upward from the open hatch.
The caretaker burst out of the bunker like a ghost from the grave, moving with terrifying speed. Before Brad or Mark could even scream, the caretaker lunged forward, sweeping their legs out from under them with a brutal, coordinated tackle that sent both boys crashing hard into the dirt.
“What the hell! Who is this? Get off me!” Brad shrieked, flailing wildly as the caretaker whipped a heavy industrial zip-tie around his wrists, locking them tightly with a sharp click.
Chloe and Jenna froze in absolute horror, their phones dropping from their shaking hands and smashing against the rocks. They turned to run, but the heavy iron mechanism of the bunker hatch—triggered by a hidden weight sensor the moment the caretaker cleared the threshold—suddenly slammed downward with a deafening metallic crash.
The heavy steel bolt slid home automatically into its housing, sealing the underground vault with a permanent, inescapable lock.
Brad and Mark hammered frantically against the sealed steel door, their arrogant laughter replaced by blood-curdling screams of pure terror as they realized they had locked themselves inside their own trap. Jenna dropped to her knees in the dirt, sobbing hysterically as she stared at the bolted hatch, while Chloe stood paralyzed, her face completely drained of color, looking at me with eyes wide with desperate realization.
The caretaker turned slowly, wiping a smear of dirt from his cheek, and looked down at me. For a tense, agonizing second, the silence of the woods hung heavy between us. Then, with a slow, deliberate nod of respect, he turned on his heel and melted back into the shadows of the foggy forest, disappearing without a trace.

I pulled my phone from my pocket, unlocked the screen, and calmly dialed the local emergency services. As the dispatcher's voice answered on the other end, I looked down at Chloe, who was now weeping softly on the ground, finally realizing what it meant to be truly powerless.
“Yes, I’m at the old university testing grounds,” I said steadily, my voice ringing clear and strong beneath the autumn stars. “I need police assistance. And you’re going to want to bring heavy cutting tools—we have four new residents who need to check into their permanent home.”
