Chapter 5 - The Dawn of a New Era

The arrest was executed with clinical precision. Within twenty minutes, the federal marshals escorted Sabina out through the grand front doors, her designer handbag seized as evidence, her face shielded from the afternoon sunlight by her own tailored jacket. The illusion she had meticulously constructed over six months collapsed in a matter of minutes, leaving behind only the cold reality of her crimes.
Silence settled over the mansion once more, but this time, the silence felt warm, spacious, and breathable.
Chadworth stood in the sunroom where Lorelai and Gemma were still huddled together on the rug. Without a word, he knelt down on the hardwood floor, right beside the scattered colored pencils and the worn plush rabbit. He didn't speak immediately; he simply opened his arms.
For a long moment, neither girl moved. The conditioning of the past months had left deep, invisible scars. Then, Lorelai let out a shaky breath, leaned forward, and buried her face in her father’s shoulder. Gemma followed instantly, her small arms wrapping tightly around his neck with a desperate, healing strength.
Chadworth closed his eyes, tears finally breaking free and tracking down his weathered cheeks as he held his daughters closer than he ever had before.
"I am so sorry," he whispered against Lorelai's hair, his voice choked with emotion. "I was blind. But I promise you, no one will ever hurt you in this house again. Never again."
Across the room, Rosamund stood quietly by the doorway, quietly gathering the remaining art supplies, her expression as calm and respectful as it had always been. She made no move to claim credit, no gesture to demand praise; she simply moved to step back into the shadows of the hallway to let the family reclaim their home.
"Rosamund," Chadworth called out softly, standing up while still holding Gemma in his arms.
The young woman paused, turning back with a polite, inquiring nod. "Yes, Mr. Prescott?"
Chadworth looked at her with a profound, unreserved respect that few people in his corporate world ever earned from him. "Don't pack your bags. In fact... I think it's time we discussed a permanent contract. One that gives you full executive authority over this household—and a seat at the family table where you’ve always belonged."

Rosamund’s stoic expression softened, a genuine, radiant smile breaking across her face for the first time since she had entered the mansion years ago.
The heavy iron gates of the estate swung open as the last police cruiser departed down the tree-lined driveway, but inside the grand halls of the Prescott estate, the darkness had finally been swept away for good.
