Chapter 5 - A New Dynasty**

Six months later, the golden autumn sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the Carver estate, casting a warm, peaceful glow across the grand nursery.

The room was painted in soft shades of cream and sage green, filled with handcrafted wooden toys, shelves of classic literature, and a crib carved from dark mahogany.

I sat in a comfortable rocking chair by the window, cradling a tiny, perfect newborn baby boy in my arms. Little Leo Carver had a shock of dark hair, strong little hands, and his father’s piercing, expressive eyes.

From the doorway, Vincent watched us.

He had completely changed over the past six months. The cold, untouchable crime boss who had once treated marriage as a mere business transaction had transformed into a fiercely devoted, fiercely protective father and husband. He had successfully restructured the syndicate into a fully legitimate international logistics and real estate conglomerate, cutting ties with the darker elements of the past to build a clean, secure empire for his son.

Nolan Carver was currently serving a twenty-five-year federal sentence in a maximum-security penitentiary for fraud, embezzlement, and conspiracy, stripped of his wealth, his influence, and his freedom.

My father, Richard Bennett, had quietly relocated to a modest apartment in Florida, living on the allowance Vincent provided, entirely out of our lives and out of our business. Madison had called once, crying about some financial trouble, but I had calmly hung up the phone and blocked her number forever.

I didn't need them anymore. I didn't need their approval, their conditions, or their judgment.

Vincent walked quietly across the nursery, his heavy boots making no sound on the plush carpet. He knelt beside my rocking chair, resting his large, warm hand gently over my shoulder, then down to touch Leo’s tiny, curled fingers.

“He has your eyes,” Vincent whispered, a soft, genuine smile breaking across his rugged face—a smile he saved only for us.

“And your stubbornness,” I replied, leaning my head against his shoulder, breathing in the familiar scent of cedar and clean linen.

Vincent wrapped his arms around both of us, pulling us close, anchoring us against the world.

They had forced me into a marriage of debt and desperation. They had called me an accountant, a bookkeeper, an inconvenience, a plus-size girl who only existed to clean up their messes.

They had no idea what kind of power was hidden in the ledgers.

And they certainly had no idea that the quiet woman in the corner office was about to rewrite the entire destiny of the underworld.
