Chapter 4 - The Altar Ambush**

The soaring stained-glass windows of St. Jude Cathedral filtered the midday sun into brilliant beams of ruby and gold, illuminating an ocean of high-society guests who murmured softly among themselves. Bank executives, real estate moguls, and society columnists filled the pews, waiting for the bride to make her grand entrance. At the front of the altar stood Grant, impeccably tailored in a custom black tuxedo, looking every bit the triumphant billionaire titan. Beside him stood his mother Vivian, beaming with pride, her diamond choker catching the light.

Near the back of the cathedral, half-hidden by a stone pillar, I stood quietly with my hands resting inside my jacket pockets. No one noticed me enter; they were all transfixed by the dramatic strains of the wedding march beginning to echo down the vaulted aisle.

Celeste appeared at the heavy oak doors, radiant in a custom ivory silk gown that subtly hugged her twelve-week pregnancy bump. A collective murmur of admiration rippled through the crowd. She floated down the aisle toward Grant, who watched her with a triumphant, possessive grin. He had won. Or so he thought.

Right as Celeste reached the altar and took Grant’s hand, the heavy oak doors at the back of the cathedral swung open with a loud, echoing bang.

Every head whipped around.

Daniel walked briskly down the center aisle, flanked by two federal marshals in dark suits and our lead corporate attorney, Marcus Lee. In Daniel’s hand was a sleek silver briefcase. Behind them marched three senior executives from Orlov Dynamics, looking pale and deeply agitated.

“Stop the ceremony,” Daniel’s voice rang out, sharp and absolute, cutting through the church acoustics like a gunshot.

Grant’s smile vanished instantly. He dropped Celeste’s hand and stepped forward, his face flushing with fury. “Daniel? What the hell do you think you’re doing? Security, throw these trespassers out immediately!”

“You don’t have any security left that answers to you, Grant,” Daniel said coldly, stepping right up to the base of the altar. He stopped just feet from the groom, his eyes locked onto him with absolute contempt.

Vivian shrieked, standing up from her front-row pew. “How dare you ruin my son’s wedding! This is a sacred family event!”

“It’s not a family event, Mrs. Vance,” Marcus Lee announced loudly, pulling a stack of heavy legal documents from his briefcase and holding them up for the entire congregation to see. “It’s a criminal conspiracy audit. Mr. Vance, at precisely twelve o'clock today—two minutes ago—your digital signature was executed to transfer proprietary thermal stabilization patents to Orlov Dynamics in exchange for twenty million dollars deposited into an offshore shell company.”

Gasps erupted through the pews. Several bank executives stood up in sheer shock.

Grant’s face turned the color of chalk. He looked wildly toward the Orlov executives standing near the back, but their CEO merely shook his head, holding up a federal search warrant. “Your game is up, Vance,” the Orlov CEO called out. “Your brother-in-law gave us the forensic audit proving those patents belonged exclusively to the Mercer Family Trust, and that you had no legal right to sell them. We’ve already cancelled the transfer and handed over your communications to federal prosecutors.”

“No—that’s a lie! The board approved it!” Grant stammered, his voice cracking as panic clawed at his throat. He looked frantically at Celeste, as if she could save him.

Instead, Celeste stepped backward, her face draining of all color. “Grant... what is he talking about?” she whispered, her voice trembling.

“Quiet, you gold-digging fraud,” Daniel snapped, pulling a second file from his briefcase. He turned toward the congregation, holding up medical charts and genetic test results. “Grant Vance has spent the last three months boasting about his ‘true heir’ and discarding his wife and premature daughter because he claimed he needed a real family line. There’s just one tiny problem: Grant is congenitally sterile. He has known for years that he can never father a biological child.”

The cathedral erupted into absolute chaos. Whispers, gasps, and outright shouting bounced off the stone walls. Vivian clutched her chest, staggering backward into the pew as the truth hit her like a physical blow.

Celeste stared at Grant in sheer horror, her hands flying over her stomach. “Sterile? You... you told me—you said the baby was yours!”

“It’s not,” Daniel said ruthlessly, dropping a paternity report onto the altar steps. “DNA profiling of Miss Ashford’s unborn child confirms the biological father is not Grant Vance. It’s Julian Vance, the junior executive at Orlov Dynamics whom she’s been seeing behind Grant’s back for six months.”

Grant let out a choked, inhuman sound, lunging blindly toward Daniel, but the federal marshals intercepted him instantly, slamming his wrists into heavy steel handcuffs. The flashbulbs of hidden paparazzi hiding in the back rows went off in rapid succession, capturing the disgraced billionaire CEO in a custom tuxedo, weeping in handcuffs at his own wedding while his mistress screamed hysterically at the altar.
