Chapter 9 - Breaking the Syndicate

The front hallway of the Moretti manor erupted into a chaotic symphony of shattering glass, splintering oak, and automatic gunfire.
Marcus Vance pushed his way through the shattered double doors of the foyer, his face twisted into an ugly, triumphant sneer as his men poured into the grand hall, their weapons raised.
"Damen!" Marcus shouted over the din of battle. "You picked the wrong girl to play savior for! Hand over the nurse and the ledger, and maybe I'll let you walk out of your own estate alive!"
From the top of the grand double staircase, a single shot cracked through the air, shattering the crystal chandelier directly above Marcus's head and raining sparkling glass down onto the marble floor.
Marcus scrambled backward, dropping into a crouch. "What the—?"
Damen Moretti stepped out onto the balcony overlooking the foyer, his rifle leveled directly at Marcus's chest. Beside him stood Hannah, holding her firearm with steady, unyielding hands, her eyes burning with a cold, righteous fury.
"You're looking for the ledger, Marcus?" Hannah’s voice carried clearly across the vast hall. "It's right here. But you're going to have to earn it."
Marcus snarled, gesturing frantically to his enforcers. "Kill them! Burn the whole damn house down!"
Before Marcus's men could raise their rifles toward the balcony, the side windows of the foyer shattered inward as Damen’s elite security detail—positioned outside in the courtyard—poured coordinated suppressing fire through every angle, neutralizing the syndicate thugs in a matter of seconds.
Marco stepped out from behind a marble pillar right behind Marcus, pressing the cold barrel of a pistol against the back of Marcus’s neck.
"Drop the weapon, Marcus," Marco whispered. "The meeting is over."

Marcus froze, his hands trembling as his gun slipped from his fingers and clattered against the marble floor.
