Chapter 4 - The Mask Slips in Court**

We stepped into the kitchen just as Eleanor was standing over Clara, who was still trembling on the floor near the shattered glass, desperately trying to shield her abdomen. In the corner, baby Leo was wailing softly in his carrier.

“Mom, step away from her right now,” I commanded, my voice cutting through the kitchen like a razor.

Eleanor spun around, her face instantly shifting from malicious fury into an Oscar-worthy performance of shock and sorrow. “Julian! Thank goodness you’re home! Your wife has completely lost her mind, she threw a glass in a fit of postpartum hysteria, and I was just trying to teach her some discipline so she wouldn't—'

“Save it, Eleanor,” Marcus interrupted, flashing his detective badge as the two uniformed officers stepped into the kitchen, flanking her. “You are being detained for domestic endangerment, psychological abuse of a vulnerable recovery patient, and reckless endangerment of a minor. Anything you say can and will be used against you.”

Eleanor’s jaw dropped, the mask of sweet motherhood cracking completely. For a split second, her eyes flashed with pure, venomous hatred. “You arrogant ungrateful boy! I raised you! I built your life! You’re arresting me over this lazy, ungrateful—'

“Cuff her,” Marcus ordered cleanly.

As the cold metal handcuffs clicked around my mother’s wrists for the very first time in her pristine, privileged life, she shrieked like a cornered animal, screaming about her reputation, her friends, and her online followers. But the police officers didn't flinch. They escorted her out the back door directly into the waiting cruiser, sealing her fate before she could grab her phone or spin another lie.

I dropped to my knees beside Clara, gently pulling her into my arms and burying my face in her hair as tears finally broke free from my eyes. “I’m so sorry, my love,” I choked out, holding her tightly. “I’m so sorry I wasn't here fast enough. You’re safe now. It’s over.”

Clara wept into my shoulder, her body trembling with exhaustion and relief. “She... she kept saying nobody would ever believe me because everyone loved her so much,” she whispered.

“Everyone except the cameras,” I replied softly.

That afternoon, while Clara rested safely upstairs with our son and Audrey—who had arrived straight from the airport to hold her sister-in-law’s hand—I sat at my home office desk and executed the final phase of my plan. I didn't file a quiet lawsuit. I went public with the unedited, timestamped video footage, accompanied by a detailed public statement outlining my mother’s systematic abuse, backed by Audrey’s sworn affidavit and medical reports.

By evening, the digital tsunami hit. The "Perfect Grandmother" blog was flooded with thousands of outraged comments. Her volunteer organizations immediately severed ties, and her social media accounts were buried under an avalanche of public condemnation. The internet she had manipulated for years finally turned into the mirror that reflected her true, ugly soul.
