Chapter 5 - The Queen of the Bellamy Empire

The Bellamy estate was not a house; it was a fortress wrapped in sprawling manicured gardens, high wrought-iron security gates, and a suffocating aura of untouchable wealth. Located on a secluded cliffside overlooking the Hudson River, the sprawling stone mansion looked like something straight out of a gothic romance novel.
When the black SUV rolled through the iron gates, Bianca sat stiffly in the passenger-side back seat, arms crossed tightly over her chest, radiating pure, unadulterated fury.
"You are an arrogant, overbearing, tyrannical criminal," Bianca fired off for the fourth time since they crossed the George Washington Bridge.
Tristan didn't even look up from his tablet. "You've called me a criminal twice, overbearing three times, and tyrannical once. We’re making great progress on your vocabulary."
"I hate you," she snapped.
"Everyone does," Tristan replied calmly, finally turning his head to look at her with a faint, maddening smile. "It’s practically a prerequisite for my job description. But you’re going to love the guest suite. My mother specifically chose the room with the balcony overlooking the river."
Before Bianca could unleash another round of righteous fury, the car stopped. The driver opened her door, and standing on the stone steps waiting to greet them with a radiant, welcoming smile was Eleanor Bellamy, leaning lightly on a polished cane.
"Welcome home, dear!" Eleanor called out happily.
Bianca’s angry retort melted away into sheer embarrassment. She couldn't yell at the son in front of his recovering mother. She took a deep, grounding breath, plastered on a polite professional smile, and stepped out onto the gravel drive.
Over the next three weeks, life at the Bellamy estate turned Bianca’s orderly world completely upside down.
True to his word, Tristan’s security detail was airtight, but inside the mansion, Bianca was treated not as a prisoner, but as an absolute queen. The staff catered to her every whim, the kitchen prepared her favorite meals without her even asking, and Eleanor treated her more like a beloved daughter than a hired nurse.
Yet, it was the quiet moments with Tristan that truly unraveled her defenses.
As the days turned into weeks, Bianca began to see past the ruthless mafia boss facade. She saw the way Tristan gently helped his mother into her garden chair every afternoon. She saw the immense, crushing weight of responsibility he carried to protect his family from rival syndicates. And slowly, night after night, as they sat across from each other at the grand mahogany dining table discussing everything from medical ethics to corporate philosophy, the ice around her heart began to crack.
The terrifying monster from the underworld turned out to be a man who simply wanted to keep his world safe—and who had quietly fallen completely, hopelessly in love with an exhausted nurse who had accidentally climbed into his car.
It happened on a crisp December evening, exactly one month after their fateful first meeting.
Eleanor had retired early to her suite, leaving the sprawling glass-walled library bathed in the warm, flickering amber light of a crackling stone fireplace. Bianca stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the snowflakes drift gently down over the frozen Hudson River.
Soft footsteps approached from behind, and a second later, the familiar, comforting scent of cedarwood and espresso enveloped her. A warm, heavy cashmere coat draped gently over her shoulders.
"You'll catch a cold," Tristan’s deep voice murmured close to her ear.
Bianca pulled the coat tighter around herself, leaning back slightly against his solid chest. She could feel the steady, powerful thumping of his heart.
"I’m a nurse, Tristan. I know how colds work," she teased softly, though a shiver of pure anticipation danced down her spine.
Tristan reached around her, his strong, calloused hands gently taking hers, turning her around so she was facing him. His dark, fathomless eyes searched her face with an intensity that made her breath catch.
"My mother’s physical therapy is finished, Bianca," Tristan said quietly, his voice dropping into a register that felt like a caress. "Her recovery is complete."
A sudden, sharp pang of panic struck Bianca’s chest. The realization hit her with sickening clarity: Her month was up. It was time for her to pack her bags, leave the estate, and go back to her cramped Queens apartment and her exhausting double shifts.
She looked down, biting her lower lip to keep it from trembling. "I... I know. I’ll call the moving company tomorrow morning."
Before she could step away, Tristan’s fingers gently tilted her chin upward, forcing her to meet his gaze. There was no coldness in his eyes now—only raw, absolute, unwavering devotion.
"I didn't bring you here to be my mother's nurse, Bianca," Tristan whispered huskily, his thumb tracing the apple of her cheekbone. "I brought you here because the moment you fell asleep in the back of my car, my empty house suddenly felt like a home."
Bianca’s breath hitched. "Tristan..."
"Stay," he pleaded softly, pressing his forehead gently against hers. "Stay in this house. Stay in my life. Rule this dark empire by my side as my wife, and let me spend the rest of my days making sure you never have to work a twenty-four-hour shift again unless you want to."
Tears of pure, overwhelming happiness welled up in Bianca’s eyes. She reached up, wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him down to her level.
"Only if I'm the one driving next time," Bianca whispered with a watery laugh.

Tristan smiled—a true, brilliant smile that melted away every shadow of the fearsome mafia boss—and captured her lips in a deep, passionate, breathless kiss that sealed their fates forever.
The accidental mistake outside St. Catherine’s hospital had terrified her at first. But as she stood in the arms of New York’s most dangerous kingpin, Bianca knew it was the best mistake she had ever made.
