Chapter 3 - The Web of Betrayal**

Within ten minutes, the garden party had been entirely cleared out. The guests were ushered toward their vehicles by armed security teams under the firm instructions that the weekend festivities had concluded early. The sprawling estate grew suffocatingly quiet, save for the low hum of cicadas in the oak trees.

Inside the massive, wood-paneled executive study on the second floor of the main villa, the atmosphere was thick with impending doom.

Javier sat across the heavy mahogany desk, sweating profusely despite the room’s air conditioning. Two of Dante’s most trusted enforcers stood like marble statues beside the double doors, blocking any possible exit.

Dante sat behind the desk, his elbows resting on the polished wood, his fingers steepled thoughtfully beneath his chin. He hadn't said a single word since they walked inside. He had simply laid the folded parchment flat in the center of the desk, placing a heavy silver paperweight over it as if keeping a dangerous beast caged beneath glass.

“You’ve been very busy over the last five years, Javier,” Dante finally broke the silence, his voice terrifyingly calm.

Javier swallowed hard, his throat dry as sandpaper. “Dante, listen to me. That paper is old. It’s historical garbage! People plant things in old properties to frame others. You can’t seriously believe—ahn old piece of trash found by a child in a garden wall—that’s not valid corporate evidence!”

“Isn’t it?” Dante raised an eyebrow, sliding a second file across the desk—a thick digital audit report compiled by his personal financial intelligence team over the last hour. “This paper matches the exact signature verification codes found in the Swiss bank accounts currently funding your private real estate developments in Miami. It proves that your family didn't just steal my father’s shipping lanes a quarter-century ago; it proves you’ve been slowly siphoning capital from the Romano syndicate’s subsidiary accounts right under my nose.”

Javier’s color drained completely. The arrogant, aggressive captain who had thrown an eight-year-old boy into the dirt just an hour earlier vanished entirely, replaced by a cornered rat realizing there was no escape.

“I’m part of this family, Dante!” Javier snapped, his voice cracking with rising panic. “I’ve bled for you! I’ve managed your docks! Without me, half your shipments would rot in transit!”

“You were never family, Javier,” Dante said coldly, standing up slowly from his chair. “You were a parasite waiting for an opening to devour the host. And worse than that—you laid hands on my son.”

Javier panicked. In a blind, desperate bid for self-preservation, he reached inside his tailored jacket, his hand darting toward a concealed shoulder holster.

He didn't even get his fingers wrapped around the grip.

Before Javier’s hand cleared his jacket, one of the enforcers moved with blinding speed, slamming Javier’s arm against the edge of the mahogany desk with a sickening crack, sending his pistol clattering across the Persian rug.

Javier screamed in agony, collapsing to his knees as the enforcer pinned him firmly to the floor.

Dante walked slowly around the desk, stopping just inches from where Javier lay gasping in pain. He looked down at him with utter, chilling indifference.

“Lock him in the lower vault,” Dante instructed the guards without raising his voice. “Notify the federal prosecutors we’ve decided to cooperate fully with their ongoing corporate racketeering investigations. Give them every single financial transfer record linked to his accounts. Let the legal system finish what we started.”

As Javier was dragged out of the study, kicking, screaming, and pleading for mercy that would never come, Dante turned back toward the window, watching the sun dip below the horizon.
