Chapter 4 - The Siege of the Corporate Fortress**

The Maybach turned sharply down an unlit side street in downtown Manhattan, its heavy tires hissing against the rain-slicked pavement. Instead of heading toward Mave’s modest Brooklyn apartment or Vincent’s secure penthouse suite, the car glided smoothly down the subterranean ramp of the Costa Logistics corporate headquarters.
The security gates closed heavily behind them with a definitive clank, sealing off the outside world.
"We're not going home," Mave observed, watching the concrete pillars of the underground parking garage slide past.
"Not yet," Vincent replied as the car came to a smooth halt. "Viktor made a tactical mistake tonight. He exposed himself in broad daylight at a public charity event just to send a message. That means his operation is desperate, underfunded, and hiding out nearby. Leo is already tracking his digital footprint through our internal monitoring grid."
They stepped out of the Maybach into the sterile, fluorescent-lit garage. The air was cool and smelled of exhaust and damp concrete. As they walked toward the private elevator bank, the heavy steel security doors suddenly blinked red.
*Warning: Main grid power fluctuations detected in Sector 4.*
Vincent stopped dead in his tracks. His hand dropped instantly to his holster, his body coiling like a spring. "Leo," he barked into his lapel communicator. "Status."
There was only static. A loud, high-pitched screech echoed through the garage intercom system, followed by the heavy, rhythmic thud of automatic backup generators kicking in across the upper floors.
"It's a localized EMP or hardline server hack," Mave said instantly, her professional instincts overriding her fear. She rushed toward the emergency security terminal mounted beside the elevator. Her fingers flew across the mechanical keypad, bypassing the disabled touchscreens. "They're trying to breach the mainframe firewall in the basement financial vault."
"How do you know that?" Vincent demanded, stepping over to shield her body with his own.
"Because Sector 4 houses the encrypted physical ledger backups," Mave said, her eyes narrowing as green text scrolled frantically across the amber terminal screen. "Someone inside the organization gave Viktor our internal security protocols. It’s not just an external hit—it’s an inside job."
Before Vincent could answer, the dim emergency lighting overhead flickered and died completely, plunging the underground parking garage into a wash of eerie, pulsing red backup strobes.
From the shadows of the exit ramp, the sharp, deafening crack of a silenced pistol echoed off the concrete walls. A bullet sparked violently against the steel pillar inches from Vincent’s head.
"Get down!" Vincent roared, tackling Mave to the reinforced concrete floor as a second round whistled overhead.

Footsteps rushed toward them from the darkness—heavy, tactical, and organized. Viktor’s cleanup crew had arrived.
