Chapter 5 - The Throne of a True Queen**

Within ten minutes, Gabriel Ferraro and a dozen security specialists had cleared the estate, removing the bodies and securing the perimeter. The assassination attempt orchestrated by a rival syndicate had failed catastrophically, but the real war had already been won inside the sunroom.
Two days later, the Ashford family mansion on the North Side received an unannounced visit.
Margaret and Sienna Ashford were sitting in their opulent drawing-room drinking morning tea when the heavy oak front doors were pushed open without a knock.
Elias Marchetti walked in, his stride powerful, steady, and entirely unhindered. Behind him walked me, dressed in a custom emerald-green silk dress, wearing real diamonds around my neck—not Sienna's stolen pearls, but diamonds chosen specifically for me.
Margaret dropped her porcelain teacup, the fragile china shattering against the Persian rug as the color drained completely from her face. Sienna stood up, trembling as she stared at Elias in sheer horror.
"E-Elias..." Margaret stammered, clutching her pearls. "You... your legs..."
Elias stopped in the center of the room, his black onyx ring gleaming in the morning light as he slowly turned it around his finger. The silence in the room was suffocating.
"The medical prognosis was greatly exaggerated," Elias said smoothly, his voice dripping with lethal ice. "Much like the Ashford family's social standing. Effective immediately, every contract, financial sponsorship, and commercial lease binding your family to the Marchetti enterprises is permanently terminated."
"You can't do that!" Sienna shrieked, tears springing to her eyes. "We had an agreement! She was just a substitute!"
"She was never a substitute," Elias said, his voice rising with quiet, commanding authority. "She was the only real thing in a world built on lies. And you, Margaret... your little financial leverage over her brother's surgery? It has been fully paid in cash, cleared through my private medical trust this morning. Leo is walking out of the hospital tomorrow. Free."
Margaret sank back into her armchair, defeated and utterly destroyed, realizing that her greed had just dismantled their entire dynasty.
Elias turned to me, offering his hand with a soft, genuine smile that the underworld had never been allowed to see.
I took his hand, feeling the strength in his fingers, and walked out of that suffocating mansion forever.
Six months later, the wedding of the year took place not in a cold cathedral designed for social photographs, but in a private cliffside estate overlooking the crashing waves of Lake Michigan. There were no fake smiles, no forced contracts, and no hidden tests.
As Elias slipped a heavy, custom-designed diamond band onto my finger during the ceremony, he leaned down and whispered against my ear, the ghost of a smirk playing on his lips.

"You passed the test, Maeve," he murmured softly. "Now, help me rule the empire."
I smiled back, knowing that the invisible girl from the marble kitchen was gone forever. In her place stood a queen who had conquered the most dangerous heart in Chicago.
