Chapter 5 - The Sunrise of True Justice**

Six months after that chaotic night inside the county courthouse, the dark, suffocating shadow of corruption that had plagued Livingston County for over a decade was completely swept away.

The evidence compiled by Echo Squad and handed directly to federal prosecutors resulted in an immediate, inescapable indictment. Sheriff Rick Barnes was stripped of his badge, convicted on multiple federal felony counts of civil rights violations, corruption, racketeering, and attempted murder, and sentenced to forty-five years in a maximum-security federal penitentiary without the possibility of parole. District Attorney Harris was similarly convicted and disbarred, while every single corrupt deputy tied to their syndicate was purged from the department.

As for our family, the nightmare finally gave way to a brilliant, healing dawn.

Thanks to Dr. Harold Donnelly’s world-class surgical expertise, months of grueling physical therapy, and an unbreakable inner strength inherited from his parents, my seventeen-year-old son Tyler fought his way back.

It was a crisp Saturday morning in October when the high school basketball season tipped off its opening game. The packed gymnasium was roaring with applause as the home team took the court.

Standing near the front row of the bleachers, I wrapped my arm tightly around Sarah, our hearts swelling with profound emotion.

Out on the polished hardwood court, wearing his varsity jersey with the number twelve proudly displayed across his chest, stood Tyler. He walked with a slight, determined limp, but he was standing on his own two feet, dribbling the basketball with a bright, victorious smile lighting up his face.

My phone buzzed gently in my pocket. I pulled it out and looked at the screen. A single encrypted text message from Reaper: Mission complete, Commander. The perimeter is secure.

I slid the phone back into my pocket, smiled up at the scoreboard, and wrapped my arm around my wife as our son sank a clean three-pointer through the net, bringing the entire arena to its feet.
