Chapter 4 - The Courtroom Collapse**

The preliminary family court hearing in Manhattan was packed with the harsh fluorescent glare of institutional lighting and the quiet murmur of lawyers shuffling briefs. Daniel walked into the courtroom looking hollowed out, his expensive suit hanging slightly loose on his frame, his eyes darting frantically toward the back doors. Beside him sat a high-priced defense attorney who looked increasingly nervous as he reviewed the thick stack of exhibits submitted by Marcus.
Margaret sat in the second row, her usual air of aristocratic superiority replaced by a tense, pinched expression. She had spent weeks calling mutual acquaintances trying to salvage her family's reputation, only to find herself quietly uninvited from social circles and charity boards as word of the physical altercation at Emily’s house leaked out.
Emily entered the courtroom through the private chambers entrance, flanked by Marcus and her father. She wore a tailored charcoal-gray suit, her posture upright, her expression completely unreadable. She did not look at Daniel once as she took her seat at the plaintiff's table.
Judge Arthur Vance—no relation to the financial firm, but a notoriously strict magistrate regarding corporate ethics and domestic honesty—opened the proceedings with a sharp rap of his gavel.
“We are here today to address the emergency motions for asset freezing, restraining orders, and the preliminary findings of marital waste,” Judge Vance announced, scanning the documents before him. “Mr. Vance, your counsel has submitted an affidavit claiming that these financial entanglements and communication logs are misunderstandings. How do you plead to the charges of fabricating digital evidence to subvert family trust assets?”
Daniel stood up shakily, clearing his throat. “Your Honor, my wife... Emily was unstable, under immense stress. We were simply trying to protect our family from impulsive decisions. The documents were... exaggerated by her legal team.”
Marcus stood smoothly, holding up a pristine blue folder. “Your Honor, we have forensic IT authentication proving that the fabricated communication logs were generated from the defendant’s personal corporate IP address, in direct collaboration with his paramour, Miss Jessica Moore, who is currently facing separate subornation of perjury inquiries.”
Marcus stepped forward, placing a secondary set of documents on the judge’s desk. “Furthermore, we have documented over four hundred thousand dollars of corporate and marital funds diverted to maintain Miss Moore’s personal lifestyle, violate fiduciary duties, and fund an illegal campaign of harassment against my client while she was eight months pregnant.”
Daniel’s defense attorney tried to interject, but Judge Vance raised a hand, silencing him instantly. The judge turned his gaze to Daniel, his expression cold and unforgiving.
“Mr. Vance, you have systematically attempted to defraud your spouse, manipulate judicial processes, and asset-strip a marriage built upon capital you did not earn,” Judge Vance said, his voice echoing clearly through the silent courtroom. “The court grants all emergency motions. All shared accounts, corporate equities tied to the marital trust, and executive privileges are hereby frozen and transferred to provisional receivership under Mrs. Vance’s sole direction. Furthermore, criminal referrals for wire fraud and perjury are being forwarded to the district attorney’s office.”

Daniel dropped back into his chair, his hands covering his face as the reality of his total destruction washed over him. Margaret let out a sharp gasp from the benches, realizing that the empire her son had boasted about was entirely gone.
