Chapter 5 - The Sunrise of True Freedom**

Three months after that harrowing night, the harsh, clinical environment of the hospital felt like a distant, hazy memory from another lifetime.
The legal fallout for Diego Vance was swift, merciless, and absolute. Armed with my father’s elite legal squadron and the irrefutable digital evidence captured by the estate's smart security system—including crystal-clear video footage of Diego forcing me beneath the freezing shower and watching me collapse—the prosecution's case was ironclad. Facing multiple felony charges including attempted murder and domestic terrorism, Diego’s defense attorneys realized a trial was hopeless and advised him to plead guilty. He was sentenced to twenty-five years in federal and state prison without the possibility of parole for the first fifteen years.
His mother, Brenna, disgraced and implicated in the corporate asset-stripping conspiracy, was forced to resign from her board positions and quietly fled the state in absolute shame. As for Elena Vance—the corporate lobbyist and mistress—she was fired from her firm the moment investigators uncovered her involvement in the illegal asset transfer schemes, and she was currently facing federal wire fraud charges.
My life, however, was experiencing a breathtaking, radiant renaissance.
The divorce was granted on grounds of extreme cruelty and attempted murder, restoring my maiden name and returning 100 percent of my software firm and property holdings back to my sole ownership.
Standing on the sunlit, stone-paved back patio of our newly renovated downtown penthouse overlooking the glittering city skyline, the morning air smelled of fresh coffee, blooming jasmine, and absolute, uncompromised freedom.
In my arms, my newborn daughter—healthy, beautiful, bright-eyed, and giggling softly—cooed happily as she reached up with her tiny hand to grab my finger.
My father walked out onto the patio, carrying a tray with two steaming mugs of gourmet coffee and a small plate of pastries. He set the tray down on the marble table, walked over, and gently wrapped his arm around my shoulders, looking down at his granddaughter with profound adoration.
“Morning, my brave girl,” my father smiled warmly, kissing the top of my head. “How are my favorite two ladies doing today?”
I took a slow, peaceful sip of my coffee, looking out toward the horizon where the sun was climbing higher into a brilliant, endless blue sky.

“We’ve never been better, Dad,” I murmured softly, resting my cheek against my daughter’s warm head. “We are completely free.”
My father smiled, feeling the warm morning sun wash over our faces. The terrifying nightmare of my marriage was buried deep in the past, and our future belonged entirely to the two of us, shining brighter than the morning light.
