Chapter 1 - The Razor and the Blind King**

The scent of designer perfume, harsh chemical hair bleach, and cold corporate indifference lingered heavy in the executive restroom of Sterling Logistics. I stood frozen before the wide, polished double-sink mirror, staring at a stranger. Most of my thick, long brown hair was gone—hacked away in jagged, uneven clumps, patches of my pale scalp exposed to the glaring overhead LED lights. The jagged ends looked like barbed wire, a physical brand of humiliation inflicted by a woman who thought she had already won.

Victoria Vance stood a few feet away, her arms crossed over her tailored silk blouse, a smug, unrepentant smirk plastered across her face. Office security guards hovered awkwardly in the doorway, staring at the floor, terrified of the corporate fallout unfolding before them.

Minutes earlier, I had walked into Julian Sterling’s executive suite to surprise my husband of ten years with lunch, only to find Victoria sitting behind his desk wearing his custom wool blazer while Julian chuckled nearby. When I demanded an explanation, Victoria didn't shrink away; she launched into a vicious verbal assault that turned physical before anyone could stop her. With the help of two junior assistants loyal to Victoria, they pinned me against the restroom wall, grabbed office scissors, and committed an act of pure, unadulterated sabotage.

The heavy glass door swung open, and Julian rushed in, his hair slightly disheveled, panic written all over his face. But the moment his eyes landed on the scene, his instinct wasn't to check on his wife, whose hair had just been mutilated. Instead, he lunged toward his mistress.

“Victoria! What the hell were you thinking?!” Julian panicked, his voice cracking with professional dread. “Are you out of your mind?!”

Victoria merely tossed her head back and shrugged. “I did it for us, Julian. Someone had to show her she doesn't belong here anymore.”

That sentence echoed in my ears with the chilling clarity of a death bell. I didn't scream. I didn't lunge at her throat or burst into tears. A cold, absolute calm settled deep into my bones. I looked at Julian—the man I had stood beside when he had nothing, the man whose startup I had secretly financed with my family’s generational trust—and realized he was a hollow coward.

I turned around, walked past the gaping security guards, and stepped out of the office tower without uttering a single word.

Seated alone inside my car in the underground parking garage, I adjusted the rearview mirror and looked closely at my ruined reflection. Then, I picked up my phone and dialed Julian’s direct private line.

He answered on the second ring, his tone sharp and defensive. “Sarah? Look, what happened up there was crazy, but—”

“You have exactly five minutes,” I interrupted, my voice dropping an octave into a tone that made the air in the car feel freezing.

“What are you talking about?” Julian scoffed nervously.

“Bring Victoria to my attorney’s office immediately,” I commanded. “Tell her to apologize for what she did, or your entire world ends today.”

Julian gave a harsh, dismissive laugh. “Sarah, don’t be so dramatic. It was just a scuffle, you overreacted, and—hello? Hello?”

He hung up on me. He thought this was about jealousy. He thought I was throwing a typical marital tantrum and that I would eventually calm down, shave my head completely, and crawl back to our suburban mansion like I always had.

At that exact second, a push notification flashed across my phone screen from my lead attorney, Jonathan Vance: “The emergency asset freeze and corporate injunction have been legally approved by the federal judge. We’re locked, loaded, and ready whenever you are.”

I read the text twice, looked up at the towering glass monolith of Sterling Logistics, and realized the five-minute countdown had just begun.
