Chapter 2 - The Ice Queen’s Retribution**

Flynn tried every trick in his playbook to control the narrative. Over the next forty-eight hours, Vance Global’s high-priced legal fixers swarmed the hospital, attempting to coerce the medical staff and seal my records under the guise of “private family medical emergency.” But they ran into an immovable wall named Dr. Marcus Reed and my own ruthless background in private equity.

Before I met Flynn, I hadn't just been a quiet housewife; I had been one of the most ruthless asset-recovery analysts in Chicago. I knew how corporate balance sheets were manipulated, how offshore accounts were hidden, and how a multi-billion-dollar empire could be brought to its knees if you pulled the right threads.

On the fifth day, my personal attorney, a bulldog named Arthur Vance (no relation, thankfully), walked into my hospital room carrying a thick leather portfolio.

“The divorce papers have been filed, Mabel,” Arthur said, sliding a pen across the over-bed table. “We are going for absolute fault: attempted murder, domestic violence, and involuntary termination of pregnancy resulting from felonious assault. Furthermore, I’ve frozen your joint accounts before his corporate accountants could siphon the liquidity.”

I signed my name with steady, deliberate strokes. Every line of ink felt like an execution order for Flynn’s corporate dominance.

“And Selina?” I asked.

Arthur smiled grimly. “Miss Cole has gone to ground. Her apartment in the Gold Coast is empty, and our sources say she’s packed her bags for a long trip to Europe, funded entirely by a series of corporate consulting checks drawn directly from Vance Global accounts over the last six months.”

A cold smile touched my lips. Embezzlement. Flynn hadn't just been funding her lifestyle out of pocket; he had been bleeding Vance Global’s subsidiary accounts to buy Selina luxury condos and designer bags while making me pinch pennies at home.

That afternoon, Flynn managed to slip past hospital security while my guard was down. He stood in the doorway of my room, looking desperate and disheveled, his expensive suit wrinkled as if he hadn't slept in a week.

“Mabel, you can’t do this,” Flynn pleaded, stepping closer to the bed. “If these charges go public, the board of directors will oust me. Vance Global will lose the municipal transit contract. Everything I’ve built—everything we’ve built—will collapse.”

“You built it on lies, Flynn,” I said quietly, turning my head to look him straight in the eye. “And you destroyed our children with your own hands. You thought I was weak. You thought I would stay quiet because I loved you.”

“I do love you!” he stammered, reaching out to touch my arm.

“Don’t touch me!” I snapped, pulling back so fast my IV monitor beeped frantically. “If you come within fifty feet of me again, Arthur will release the medical records, the police body-cam footage from the living room, and the forensic audit of your embezzlement to every major news outlet in the country. Get out.”

Flynn stood frozen, realizing for the first time that his money, his power, and his intimidation tactics meant nothing against a woman who had nothing left to lose. He turned and walked out of the room like a ghost.

Little did he know, the real storm hadn't even hit yet.
