Chapter 4 - The Fall of the Matriarch

The heavy front gates of the estate clicked shut as the police officers mounted the steps of the porch, their eyes taking in the legal documents in Julian’s hands, the discarded metal chain on the floor, and the trembling child held safely in her mother’s arms.
“Mr. Vance?” the lead officer asked, looking directly at Julian.
“I’m Julian Vance. And I want to file formal charges,” Julian stated clearly, handing the fraudulent petition, the fake DNA report, and the official real test report directly to the officer. “This woman, Beatrice Vance, has committed corporate fraud, document forgery, and child endangerment.”
Beatrice let out a sharp, hysterical gasp, lunging forward with her hands raised. “You can’t do this to me! I built this family! I made this estate what it is! Julian, you are my son—!”
“I was your son the moment you raised me,” Julian interrupted, his voice devoid of any warmth or mercy. “But you stopped being a mother the day you put chains on a five-year-old child.”
Officer Davis stepped forward, gently securing cold steel handcuffs around Beatrice’s wrists. She thrashed uselessly against the restraint, shouting empty threats and furious denials as she was guided down the steps and toward the waiting patrol car. The high-society guests watched in stunned awe as the woman who had ruled the household with an iron fist for decades was hauled away in disgrace.

The toxic cloud that had suffocated the family for years had finally lifted, leaving behind the crisp, clean air of absolute truth. Julian turned around, walked slowly over to Clara and Lily, and dropped heavily to his knees on the wooden porch, pulling them both into his arms.
