Chapter 4 - The Twelve-Minute Takeover and the Sheriff's Arrival

Exactly eleven minutes and forty seconds later, a synchronized convoy of four black Chevy Suburbans bearing government-exempt diplomatic plates tore up our circular gravel driveway, spraying stones everywhere.

Through the second-floor bay window, Julian, Margaret, and Chloe watched in stunned, paralyzed horror as twelve men in sharp charcoal-gray suits stepped out of the vehicles. Leading the pack was Melissa Vance—ironically no relation to Julian—our family’s ruthless chief corporate litigation attorney, flanked by two armed county sheriff deputies and a professional asset inventory crew holding clipboards and digital scanners.

The heavy front door didn't even need to be knocked on. Melissa pulled a master digital override key from her pocket, swiped it across the smart-lock panel, and the massive double doors swung open with a definitive bang.

"Federal asset recovery and corporate lease termination execution in progress!" Melissa’s voice echoed powerfully up the grand staircase. "All unauthorized occupants inside the premises have precisely ten minutes to gather their personal belongings, vacate the property, and surrender all house keys, garage openers, and corporate vehicle key fobs!"

Chaos erupted inside the house.

Chloe let out a blood-curdling scream, running back into the master bedroom, frantically grabbing her designer clothes and stuffing them into a Louis Vuitton duffel bag while still wearing my monogrammed robe. Margaret was hyperventilating, clutching her designer handbag like a lifeline as she stumbled down the stairs, screeching at the security guards.

"You can't do this! Do you know who my son is?! He is a senior vice president at—"

"He was a senior vice president," Melissa corrected smoothly, walking up the grand staircase with her clipboard, stopping right in front of Julian, who stood trembling in his open silk robe. She pulled a crisp white document from her folder and shoved it directly against his chest. "Mr. Vance, effective thirty seconds ago, your corporate sponsor has officially terminated your employment contract with Sterling Enterprises. Your office desk has already been cleared out, your company laptop has been wiped remotely, and your corporate credit cards have been frozen."

Julian staggered backward, colliding against the master bedroom doorframe. "You... you can't do that. I built that department! I brought in millions in revenue!"

"You brought in zero revenue, Julian," I said, walking past Melissa to stand right in front of my trembling, disgraced husband. I cradled sleeping Cora gently in my arms, looking down at him with absolute pity. "You were a failing middle-manager riding on the coattails of my family’s venture capital. You thought I was weak because I chose to love you quietly. You thought you could humiliate me while I was in a hospital bed giving birth to your child."

Two sheriff deputies walked up the stairs, flanking Julian on either side. "Sir, step away from the premises. You have ten minutes to collect your personal items from the guest quarters, or they will be bagged and sent to the public curb."
