Chapter 2 - The Secret Recording That Shook the Foundation**

The heavy oak doors of the master study clicked shut, sealing out the silent, suffocating tension that had gripped the Pascale mansion all afternoon. Inside the soundproof room, Carmine sat behind his massive mahogany desk, staring at a small, unassuming digital device resting right in the center of the polished wood.

Leo stood a few feet away, his back straight, his eyes dry. Beside him stood Arthur, the estate’s veteran butler, who had served the Pascale family for over forty years and had finally decided that silence was no longer an option.

“Play it again, Arthur,” Carmine commanded, his voice dropping into a dangerous, gravelly whisper that made the air in the room feel heavy.

Arthur reached out with a trembling, gloved finger and pressed play.

*“Start over. If you clean badly, you go hungry,”* Helena’s amplified voice echoed harshly through the quiet study. “He scratched my car. Debt gets worked off... Get back to work, boy.”

Carmine closed his eyes. Every muscle in his jaw clenched so hard a vein throbbed violently at his temple. For months, Helena had convinced him that she was trying to instill discipline in the grieving boy. She had smiled at formal dinners, played the loving step-mother in front of business associates, and isolated Carmine with gentle, manipulative reassurances whenever Leo seemed quiet or withdrawn.

And all the while, behind closed doors, she had been treating his only son like an indentured servant in his own home.

“How long, Arthur?” Carmine asked, his voice dead, devoid of any warmth.

“Since the second month of the marriage, sir,” Arthur answered honestly, keeping his head bowed out of respect. “Mrs. Pascale... she systematicized it. When you were away on international acquisitions, the staff was forbidden from assisting Master Leo. She wanted him broken.”

Carmine stood up so fast his leather executive chair rolled backward and slammed hard against the wood-paneled wall. The titan of industry, a man who had crushed corporate rivals and navigated the ruthless underworld of international business without blinking, felt a wave of absolute, sickening nausea wash over him. He had let a wolf into his home, and she had targeted his flesh and blood.

Leo looked up at his father, his young face carrying an maturity far beyond his ten years. “She told me if I told you, you would send me away to a boarding school because you loved her more than me.”

Hearing those words broke something permanently inside Carmine’s chest. He knelt down on one knee, bringing himself eye-level with his son, and for the first time in months, Carmine pulled Leo into a fierce, protective embrace, burying his face in the boy’s shoulder.

“Nobody is sending you anywhere, son,” Carmine swore fiercely, his voice thick with emotion. “And nobody will ever make you kneel in the dirt again. I promise you that.”

When Carmine stood back up, the sorrow in his eyes had been completely replaced by cold, calculating fury. He picked up his secure desk phone and dialed a direct extension.

“Victoria? This is Carmine Pascale,” he said, speaking to his chief corporate and matrimonial attorney with chilling precision. “I need you at the estate immediately. Bring the master files for the prenuptial agreement, the security trust deeds, and the emergency dissolution protocols. My wife is about to learn what happens when you mistake a father’s love for weakness.”
