Chapter 4 - The Federal Trap and the Confession on Tape**

Before Richard could even turn around to run toward the heavy double doors of the study, the polished mahogany panels swung wide open.

Stepping into the room were three armed federal agents from the Department of Justice, accompanied by two local homicide detectives and my attorney, Marcus Vance. Federal badges gleamed under the amber lights, and the heavy click of steel handcuffs being unclipped echoed sharply in the silent room.

Richard spun around in absolute panic, his back pressed hard against the locked biometric safe. "This is a mistake! You can't arrest me! My wife had a tragic accident! Look at her, she's right there on the screen!"

"You're not being arrested for an accident, Mr. Hayes," lead Detective Miller said coldly, stepping forward and flashing an arrest warrant directly into Richard's face. "You're being arrested for attempted premeditated murder, interstate wire fraud, conspiracy to commit financial embezzlement, and the tampering of aircraft safety systems."

"No! No, prove it! You have no proof!" Richard shrieked, thrashing wildly as the federal agents moved in, grabbing his arms and forcing him down onto the floor.

"Oh, Richard, we have more than proof," my voice echoed from the screen, cutting through his frantic screams like a razor. "Play track two, Marcus."

Marcus nodded, tapping a button on his laptop keyboard.

Instantly, clear, high-definition audio began playing through the study’s surround-sound system. It was a crystal-clear recording of a conversation that had taken place late last night in our private home office—a conversation where Richard sat on the couch with his secret offshore financial advisor, explicitly detailing how he intended to push me out of the helicopter over international waters, stage it as an accident, and liquidate my tech assets within forty-eight hours of my death.

Every single detail was laid bare: the date, the time, the flight plan, the exact legal loopholes he planned to exploit, and his utter contempt for me and our unborn child.

As his own voice echoed back at him through the room, confessing to every single element of the murder plot with chilling clarity, Richard stopped struggling. The fight completely drained out of him. He hung his head in utter defeat as the heavy steel handcuffs snapped tightly around his wrists, biting deep into his flesh.

"Read him his rights," Detective Miller ordered, hauling Richard up from the floor by his arms.

As federal agents dragged my sobbing, broken husband out of the study and down the grand hallway toward the waiting police cruisers, Richard looked back one final time toward the smart-glass screen where my live feed was still displaying.

His eyes were wide with pure, unadulterated terror—not because he had been caught, but because he finally realized that he had never been the hunter in this marriage. He had been a mouse playing in a cage designed entirely by me.

"Take good care of him, officers," I said softly into the microphone. "He's going to need a lot of time to think about his investments."

The screen flickered black. The trap had snapped shut, and the nightmare was finally over.
