Chapter 2 - The Widower’s Performance and the Smart-Glass Reveal**

High above the coastline, Richard landed the helicopter precisely on schedule at the private Malibu aviation club. He stepped out of the cockpit with practiced grace, his expression a masterpiece of manufactured grief and profound shock. He immediately fell to his knees on the tarmac, burying his face in his hands as he screamed for help, playing the role of the devastated, helpless husband whose pregnant wife had accidentally slipped from the cabin during a sudden downdraft turbulence.
Within minutes, the local authorities, coast guard search-and-rescue teams, and frantic media outlets were swarming the landing pad.
"She... she leaned out too far to take a photo!" Richard sobbed convincingly to the lead detective, his shoulders shaking as television news cameras captured every tear rolling down his cheeks. "The wind caught the door... I tried to grab her arm, I swear I did, but she slipped right through my fingers! Oh God, my wife... my unborn child..."
It was a brilliant theatrical performance. He spoke softly, projected immense vulnerability, and even allowed paramedics to treat him for mild shock. By midday, news networks across the country were broadcasting breaking reports of the tragic accident involving tech heiress Amelia Hayes, painting a heartbreaking picture of a dream romance cut short by cruel fate.
Meanwhile, miles inland, safely hidden inside a secure safehouse owned by my private security firm, I sat in a comfortable leather chair watching the live news broadcast on a large monitor. I sipped a cup of warm chamomile tea, watching my husband weep crocodile tears over my supposed demise.
Beside me stood Marcus Vance, my chief legal counsel and head of corporate security. A grim, satisfied smile played across Marcus’s face as he tapped a few keys on his encrypted laptop.
"He's playing his part to absolute perfection, Amelia," Marcus noted, turning the screen toward me. "Look at the stock market reaction. Hayes Tech shares dipped momentarily out of sympathy, but his emergency press release is already positioning him as the interim CEO and primary beneficiary pending the probate execution."
"Let him enjoy the throne for a few more hours, Marcus," I replied calmly, my voice steady despite the lingering adrenaline of the fall. "Has the trigger been pulled?"
"Everything is locked and loaded," Marcus confirmed, clicking a secure folder open. "The moment Richard steps foot back inside your primary estate in Beverly Hills to claim his inheritance, the automated smart-glass system will transition, the federal agents will be waiting in the study, and your digital resurrection will be broadcast live across every major media network he's currently manipulating."
I nodded slowly, looking down at my phone. A GPS tracker showed Richard's luxury SUV leaving the Malibu aviation center, heading straight toward our Beverly Hills mansion. He was driving fast, undoubtedly eager to scour my personal safe for physical bearer bonds, offshore access codes, and the master keys to the corporate vault before anyone else could secure them.
He thought he was rushing home to inherit a multi-billion-dollar empire.
He was actually racing straight toward his own executioners.
I stood up, smoothing down my clothes, and looked at the reflection in the secure window. The terrified pregnant woman who had been shoved out of a helicopter doors moments ago was entirely gone. In her place stood the true owner of the empire—cold, focused, and entirely unstoppable.

"Let's go greet my loving husband," I said softly.
