Chapter 3 - Legal Warfare and Public Ruin

Panic finally erupted in the ballroom. Wendy began hyperventilating, clutching her pearls and sinking into a velvet sofa while whispering hysterically about her social status. Arthur lunged forward toward Marcus in a blind rage, roaring like a wounded animal, but before he could take three steps, my fourth brother, Julian—the most feared top-tier criminal defense attorney in the state—stepped into his path with a briefcase in hand. Julian didn’t raise his voice; he simply flipped open a thick leather-bound folder. “Arthur Vance, attempting physical assault on an officer of the court is a very poor career move, especially when federal marshals are already waiting at the front gates with arrest warrants,” Julian stated coolly. Arthur froze mid-stride, his fists clenched, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. “Arrests? On what grounds? We haven’t done anything illegal!” Arthur shrieked.
Julian smiled, a sharp, humorless expression that sent a visible shudder through the crowd. “Oh, where should I begin? Massive securities fraud, embezzlement of pension funds from your construction workers, tax evasion spanning over a decade, and conspiracy to commit insurance fraud—specifically regarding a certain two-million-dollar life insurance policy taken out on my sister by her loving mother-in-law, designed to look like an accidental death in the criminal underworld.” The color vanished entirely from Wendy’s face as she let out a piercing shriek of absolute terror. She had thought her vile scheme with my mother and the underground syndicate was entirely airtight, completely unaware that my fifth brother, Caleb—a master of high-level intelligence and private investigations—had tapped their phones, intercepted their encrypted emails, and recorded their conversations weeks ago.
Caleb stepped out from the shadows near the grand staircase, tossing a small flash drive into the air and catching it deftly. “Every single bank transfer, every shady offshore account in the Cayman Islands, and every recorded phone call where you plotted Flora’s murder is already sitting on the desk of the federal prosecutor,” Caleb said casually. “The FBI’s white-collar crime division is already freezing your personal assets as we speak. By tomorrow morning, every credit card you own will be declined, your luxury cars will be repossessed from the driveway, and you won’t even be able to buy a cup of coffee without asking for charity.” Isaac, completely unraveled, dropped to his knees on the marble floor, staring up at me with tears of pure desperation streaming down his face. The man who had whipped me thirty times just an hour ago, laughing as I bled, was now reduced to a pathetic, shivering wreck, realizing that his entire existence had been wiped out in a matter of minutes.
