Chapter 2 - The Dismantling of the Vance Empire

Isaac stepped forward, trying to salvage his shattered bravado, though a sheen of cold sweat had broken out across his forehead. He pointed a finger at Noah, attempting to project the authority of a man who thought his money could buy off any threat. “Listen to me, whoever you are. This is a private family matter. Your sister stepped out of line, ruined my girlfriend’s dress, and received a lesson in discipline. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll turn your little mercenaries around and walk out of my house before I ruin you financially.” Noah didn’t even blink. He looked at Isaac the way a scientist looks at a particularly disgusting insect under a microscope.

At that exact moment, my second-oldest brother, Marcus—a forensic accountant whose financial intelligence reports could topple foreign governments—stepped past Noah, holding a sleek tablet in his hand. Marcus pushed his glasses up his nose and offered Isaac a sickeningly sweet corporate smile. “Ruin him financially, Dad? That’s hilarious, considering Isaac hasn't actually owned a single brick of this estate for over forty-eight hours,” Marcus announced smoothly, his voice carrying clearly across the silent ballroom. Arthur Vance’s face drained of all color, turning the shade of spoiled milk. “What... what did you say?” Arthur stammered, stepping toward Marcus. “That’s impossible. Our construction empire is worth over a billion dollars. We hold the market!”

Marcus tapped his screen, syncing it to the massive projector screen behind the head table, instantly illuminating the ballroom with financial spreadsheets, bank statements, and foreclosure notices. “Not anymore, Arthur. For the past six months, my firm has been quietly buying up your delinquent corporate debt, calling in your overdue supplier loans, and shorting your stock. Your liquidity is completely gone. Your flagship downtown commercial project has been hit with thirty federal stop-work orders due to safety violations I uncovered this morning. And this very estate?” Marcus paused, locking eyes with a hyperventilating Isaac. “It was foreclosed by one of my shell companies at 9:00 AM today. You’re all legally squatting in my sister’s house.” The guests began murmuring frantically, whispering behind cupped hands, realizing they were standing in a sinking ship owned by a ruined family. Clover dropped her champagne glass, the crystal shattering on the marble floor as the terrifying reality of her sugar daddy’s sudden poverty crashed down upon her.
