Chapter 2 - The Fall of the House of Hale**

Within twenty minutes of Adeline’s call, a discreet, armored black Rolls-Royce Phantom pulled up directly against the hospital’s emergency lane, ignoring the blaring horns of frustrated taxi drivers. The rear door glided open, and Thomas, her father’s longtime head of security, stepped out. His eyes softened instantly when he saw Adeline standing pale and trembling on the curb.

"Welcome home, Mrs. Hale—or should I say, Miss Voss," Thomas said gently, instantly shielding her from the wind as he helped her and the baby into the plush, heated leather interior of the vehicle. Within minutes, she was resting against down pillows while a private medical nurse, dispatched directly by her father's private concierge doctor, tended to her vitals in the back of the spacious cabin.

By the time the Rolls-Royce glided through the iron gates of her father’s sprawling Weston estate—an architectural masterpiece hidden behind towering maples and acres of manicured lawns—August Voss was waiting on the grand stone porch. The silver-haired billionaire, whose single phone call could dictate the financial fate of multinational corporations, looked at his daughter with a gaze that burned with cold, terrifying fury. He didn't ask questions; he simply opened the door, lifted his newborn grandson into his arms with infinite tenderness, and pulled Adeline into a fierce, protective embrace.

"You're safe now, Addie," August murmured, his voice rumbling with suppressed wrath. "You and the boy never have to set foot in that man's shadow again."

While Adeline rested in her childhood bedroom—surrounded by luxury she had deliberately abandoned for a decade in pursuit of a normal, unpretentious life—August’s legal and financial team went to work. They didn't need weeks to dismantle Preston Hale’s fragile illusion of empire. By Saturday morning, the comprehensive audit reports landed on August’s mahogany desk.

Preston Hale was a fraud. While he projected the image of a self-made culinary genius, his expansion into two new restaurant locations had been funded entirely by high-interest predatory loans and unauthorized withdrawals from a joint bank account Adeline had foolishly allowed him to manage. Worse still, the flagship Copper House in the South End was days away from defaulting on its commercial lease. Preston had been skimming funds to maintain an expensive lifestyle for his mother and sister, living far beyond his actual means, while treating Adeline like an inconvenient domestic servant.

And the Mercedes G-Wagon? It was registered exclusively in Adeline’s maiden name, purchased with an inheritance trust her mother had left her.

"Dad," Adeline said, walking into the study on Sunday morning while holding sleeping Leo in her arms. "I want a clean break. I want full custody, I want the business entanglements severed, and I want him out of my life permanently."

August Voss looked up from his tablet, a razor-sharp smile touching the corners of his mouth. "Consider it done, sweetheart. But before we hand him the divorce papers, let's let Mr. Hale experience a little taste of true market correction."
