Chapter 4 - The Blue Folder Execution**

The silence that fell over the grand ballroom of The Larkmont Hotel was absolute, heavy enough to crush bone. The orchestra had stopped playing entirely, and the murmur of high-society chatter vanished as Malcolm Reed stood beside me, his tall frame and sharp expression cutting through the glittering crowd like glass.

Roman took a half-step forward, his voice losing its polished composure. “Malcolm. What is the meaning of this? This is a private family celebration—you have no business here.”

“On the contrary, Roman,” Malcolm replied smoothly, his deep voice carrying clearly across the silent room. “As legal counsel for ValeBridge Holdings' primary debt-holders and trust administrators, I have every business being here. Specifically, executing default notices.”

Vivienne clutched Roman’s arm, her eyes wide with sudden panic. “Roman, what is he talking about? Make them leave!”

“They aren't leaving, Vivienne,” I said softly, opening the slim blue folder in my hands. The pages inside were crisp, official, and stamped with federal seals. I looked up, meeting Roman’s terrified gaze. “You thought you could humiliate me in front of your precious investors while systematically stealing control of the company I built behind the scenes. You forgot one minor detail: your name might be on the front of the corporate brochures, but my family trust holds the master collateral.”

Maeve Carter stepped forward, holding a thick ledger of financial disclosures. She turned to face the stunned board members scattered across the tables. “Ladies and gentlemen, over the past fourteen months, Mr. Vance has systematically misallocated corporate capital, hidden over four million dollars in unauthorized personal expenses—including luxury apartments and jewelry for Miss Vivienne—and falsified liquidity reports submitted to our primary banking partners.”

A collective gasp swept through the room. Several ValeBridge board directors stood up instantly, their faces turning pale as they realized the magnitude of the scandal unfolding before them.

“That’s a lie!” Roman shouted, his voice cracking with rising hysteria as he lunged forward, trying to grab the folder from my hands. “She’s unhinged! She’s fabricating documents out of spite because I ended our relationship!”

Before Roman could reach me, hotel security guards—summoned discreetly by Malcolm prior to their entrance—stepped firmly between us, blocking his path.

“Mr. Vance, I advise you not to touch the majority shareholder,” Malcolm warned coldly, adjusting his cuffs.

My mother finally found her voice, pushing through the crowd with a look of horror. “Helena! Stop this madness right now! You are destroying your own future over a personal grievance!”

I turned to look at the woman who had known about my sister’s betrayal for three weeks and had chosen to protect Roman’s image instead of her own daughter. “My future was never going to be safe with any of you,” I said quietly, the words cutting deeper than any scream. “You taught me to swallow my pain and smile while others crushed me. Well, the lesson is over.”
