Chapter 2 - The Sound of Sirens and the Federal Breach**

Before Julian could answer or register the chilling steadiness in my voice, a low, rumbling vibration shook the reinforced glass windows of the estate.
It wasn't thunder. It was the synchronized, heavy thrum of high-performance engines accelerating in unison.
Arthur Vance frowned, turning away from me toward the tall windows that overlooked our manicured half-mile gravel drive. "What on earth is happening out there?" he muttered, checking his own gold Rolex.
Beatrice forced a tight, brittle laugh, attempting to wave away the growing tension in the room. "Probably just some local delivery truck lost on the private lane, Arthur. Don't let this hysterical woman ruin the mood. Chloe, darling, come let me show you the nursery we prepared."
"I wouldn't unpack the nursery just yet, Beatrice," I said, my voice crisp and steady as I forced myself up onto one elbow, keeping my other hand flat against my belly. The sharp pain was subsiding, replaced by a cold, adrenaline-fueled focus.
Chloe sneered, stepping closer to Julian. "Ignore her, Jules. She's completely losing her mind. Look at her, she's sitting in garbage."
"Shut up, Chloe," Julian snapped under his breath, suddenly uneasy. He looked down at me, his eyes flickering with an uncharacteristic flash of doubt. "Clare, what did you do?"
The answer came not from my lips, but from the front gates.
A loud, shattering boom echoed through the property as the heavy, automated security gates—constructed of reinforced iron and designed to withstand a bomb blast—were violently rammed open. Car alarms began wailing across the estate.
Then came the unmistakable sound of sirens. Not one or two local patrol cars, but a deafening chorus of heavy tactical vehicles, black-and-whites, and federal transport vans screaming up the private drive.
Arthur’s face drained of color. The billionaire titan of industry, a man who regularly dined with senators and dictated market trends, stumbled backward a half-step. "That's... that's federal transit. Why are federal vehicles on this property?"
"Because," I said, gracefully standing up from the floor, brushing a stray cupcake crumb from my blue maternity dress with deliberate slowness, "your family has been running a multi-million-dollar criminal enterprise disguised as a real estate trust. And your son was too busy cheating on his pregnant wife to notice the audit trail I left right under his nose."
The heavy oak double doors of the grand salon didn't just open—they were blown inward with a synchronized crash.
Dozens of armed federal agents in heavy tactical gear, emblazoned with bright yellow F.B.I. windbreakers, flooded into the room. Their assault rifles were lowered, but their body language screamed absolute, unyielding authority. At the head of the unit walked Agent Marcus Reed, a man whose file I had memorized weeks ago during our late-night encrypted communications.
"Arthur Vance?" Agent Reed’s voice boomed across the ruined party.
Arthur puffed out his chest, attempting to deploy the terrifying executive presence that usually made corporate executives cower. "I am Arthur Vance. This is a private residence! You have no jurisdiction here without a signed federal warrant—"
Agent Reed pulled a thick sheaf of legal documents from his vest and flipped open a leather-bound badge. "Arthur Vance, you are under arrest for securities fraud, corporate embezzlement, money laundering, and racketeering. Julian Vance, you are named as an active co-conspirator in corporate tax evasion and asset concealment. Hands behind your backs—now!"
Chaos erupted.
Beatrice shrieked, clutching her pearls as two agents stepped forward and roughly seized her husband. Chloe let out a high-pitched scream, dropping her designer handbag as an agent clamped cold steel handcuffs around Julian’s wrists.
"There's been a mistake!" Julian roared, thrashing against the federal agents as they slammed him facedown against the very gift table he had just shoved me into. "My father is Arthur Vance! You can't touch us! My wife—this is a setup by my hysterical wife!"
Agent Reed ignored Julian entirely. Instead, he looked past the thrashing crowd, his stern, unyielding expression softening into one of profound professional respect. He walked straight past the handcuffed billionaires, stopped directly in front of me, and gave a sharp, crisp nod.
"Mrs. Vance," Agent Reed said clearly, loud enough for every stunned guest, terrified relative, and cowering mistress to hear. "The download was successful. All servers have been seized, the offshore accounts are frozen, and the primary indictments are locked in. The operation is a complete success. Thank you for your service."

I offered Agent Reed a polite, serene smile. "You're very welcome, Agent Reed. I'm just glad I could clean house."
