Chapter 10 - The First Sunrise

The next morning broke clear, cold, and entirely bright.
There were no cameras flashing outside the gate. No lawyers pounding on the door. No grand ballroom filled with masked socialites trading secrets behind crystal glasses.
In the small kitchen of the Cambridge cottage, the smell of pancakes and roasted coffee filled the air.
Lily sat at the wooden kitchen table, wearing oversized yellow pajamas, swinging her legs back and forth as she dipped a piece of fruit into maple syrup.
“Mommy, can we go to the park today?” Lily asked around a mouthful of pancake. “The one with the big red slide?”
Elena turned from the stove, smiling as she set a plate of bacon down on the table. “Only if you finish your milk first.”
“I’ll take her,” a voice said from the doorway.
Julian walked into the kitchen, wearing a simple flannel shirt, holding two steaming mugs of coffee. He set one down in front of Elena, his hand brushing hers intentionally.
Lily beamed, her eyes lighting up. “Can we get ice cream too? The kind with the rainbow sprinkles?”
“Only if you negotiate that deal with your mother first,” Julian laughed, pulling out the chair beside his daughter and sitting down.
Elena leaned against the counter, taking a slow sip of her coffee. She looked at Julian, then down at Lily, whose infectious laughter filled the bright little room from corner to corner.
The past was gone. The lies were buried beneath federal filings and shattered glass. What remained wasn't a dynasty built on cruelty and pride, but something infinitely stronger.

And as the morning sun poured through the kitchen window, warming the wooden floorboards, Elena knew that for the first time in her life, she was finally home.
