Chapter 4 - The Collapse of the Empire**

By late afternoon, the shockwaves of the boardroom ambush had completely dismantled Daniel’s carefully constructed world. Confined to a conference room in Philadelphia by a fabricated emergency audit meeting orchestrated by our legal team, Daniel had tried to call his office a dozen times only to find his corporate phone line locked out and his executive email privileges revoked.

When he finally caught a late afternoon flight back to Manhattan, frantic and furious, he didn't return to the penthouse. Instead, he drove straight to the sleek glass-and-steel headquarters of Bennett & Vale, expecting to storm into the executive suite and demand explanations from the board.

Instead, he found federal marshals standing outside his office doors, alongside Owen Price and two corporate restructuring attorneys.

"What the hell is going on here?" Daniel shouted, bursting past the reception desk, his face flushed with panic and rage as he saw his personal belongings being packed into cardboard banker's boxes. "Security! Remove these people immediately! I am the CEO of this company!"

"You were the CEO, Daniel," Arthur said, stepping out of the private office holding a formal termination notice bearing the unanimous signatures of the trust directors. "Effective immediately, the board has voted to strip you of all executive powers, freeze your personal accounts pending forensic asset recovery, and refer your corporate expense reports to the federal prosecutor's office."

Daniel staggered backward as if he had been physically struck. He looked around the room at the directors who had once nodded respectfully at his every word, but every single one of them looked away, refusing to meet his eyes. "This is insane," he stammered, his voice cracking. "Helena! Where is Helena? This is her doing—she can't do this to me! I built this empire!"

"You built nothing," I said, stepping out from the private conference room into the hallway. I held a slim file containing the foundational deeds and trust agreements from thirty years ago. "You were a brilliant lawyer with heavy debts and a rented apartment when my family gave you the capital, the credit, and the platform to stand on. You mistook my silence for weakness and my loyalty for submission. You thought you could parade your mistress at our daughter's baby shower and humiliate me in public without consequence."

Daniel stared at me, his arrogance finally stripped away, revealing a desperate, cornered man. "Helena... please. We can talk about this. Drop the audit, call off the lawyers. We have a family, thirty years together—we can fix this."

"We aren't fixing anything, Daniel," I replied calmly, handing him a thick envelope containing the divorce papers and the dissipation claims. "You wanted a new life with Rachel? You're free to keep her. But you'll do it without my money, without my company, and without a single dime of the empire you claimed was yours."

Before he could answer, his cell phone buzzed incessantly in his pocket. It was Rachel, calling from a Manhattan precinct where she was being questioned regarding corporate wire transfers routed through her sister's design firm. Daniel looked at the screen, then looked at me, realization dawning with crushing weight. He had lost everything.
