Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Ambush**

The mahogany-paneled boardroom of Bennett & Vale was quiet enough to hear the hum of the overhead projector when Rachel pushed open the double doors. She wore a tailored cream Chanel suit and carried a leather portfolio, smiling brightly at the corporate directors seated around the long oak table. Daniel was not present, as Julia had strategically scheduled a mandatory, out-of-town merger deposition for him that morning to keep him entirely isolated in Philadelphia.

"Good morning, everyone," Rachel announced smoothly, stepping toward the head of the table where my chair usually sat during family trust meetings. "I’m here on behalf of the upcoming executive restructuring committee to discuss the new aesthetic branding initiative and community outreach funding."

Several board members stared at her in stunned silence. The senior vice president of operations cleared his throat, glancing toward the door. "Miss Sloan, this is a restricted executive session. You have no authorization to be in this room, nor do you hold any position within Bennett & Vale."

Rachel’s smile faltered only slightly before she recovered, tossing her blonde hair over her shoulder. "Oh, I think Daniel has made it quite clear that my position within this family—and this company—is changing very soon. In fact, he asked me to review these preliminary budget allocations for the Tribeca property design expenses." She dropped a thick sheaf of papers onto the polished wood.

The papers slid across the table, stopping directly in front of Arthur, who picked them up with slow, deliberate movements. He adjusted his reading glasses, scanned the first page—which explicitly detailed corporate funds being funneled to Rachel's private interior design LLC—and looked up.

"These invoices," Arthur said, his voice cold and steady, "represent nearly six hundred thousand dollars in unauthorized corporate disbursements over the past eight months. Furthermore, they are signed by Daniel Vance using discretionary funds that were frozen by executive board resolution forty-eight hours ago."

Color drained from Rachel’s face. "There must be some mistake. Daniel handles the corporate approvals. He told me the board approved all executive lifestyle allowances."

The heavy oak doors opened again, and this time I walked into the room. I wore a structured navy blazer, my posture relaxed but completely unyielding. Behind me walked Owen Price carrying a digital ledger, followed by Julia Mercer with a briefcase full of legal injunctions.

"There is no mistake, Rachel," I said softly, walking to the head of the table and taking my rightful seat while Rachel instinctively shrank back. "Daniel doesn't own this company. My family built the foundation, my inheritance secured the patents, and my voting shares control the board. And right now, every single dollar he spent on you, your apartment, your Range Rover, and your lifestyle has been cataloged as corporate embezzlement and marital waste."

Rachel grabbed the edge of the table, her composure completely shattering. "You can't do this! Daniel is the CEO! He's going to marry me!"

"He can try," Julia said, stepping forward and opening a manila folder filled with legal notices. "Once he's served with federal wire fraud charges, asset freezing injunctions, and a fault-based divorce petition citing corporate dissipation of assets, his wedding plans are going to look remarkably complicated."
