Chapter 4 - The Revelation in the Ballroom**

The color drained from Richard Kensington’s face so fast that he looked like a statue carved out of bleached marble. The distinguished, untouchable billionaire swayed slightly on his feet, his breath catching in his throat as if he had just taken a physical blow to the chest.

Beside him, Eleanor Kensington gasped loudly, dropping her crystal champagne flute. The glass shattered against the marble floor with a sharp explosion of sound, but neither she nor her brother seemed to notice. Eleanor’s trembling hands flew up to cover her mouth, her eyes widening in sheer, unadulterated shock as she stared directly at my throat.

At the half-sun silver necklace.

Julian gave an uncomfortable, high-pitched laugh, completely misinterpreting their horrified expressions. He reached out and grabbed my arm again, his grip tightening maliciously.

"I am so sorry, Mr. Kensington, Lady Eleanor," Julian babbled, his voice rising in panic. "Ignore that old piece of junk. I keep telling her not to wear cheap flea-market trinkets to formal corporate functions, but she insists on embarrassing me at every turn. Elena, go back to the kitchen right now before you cause any more trouble!"

My arm throbbed where Julian’s fingers dug into my flesh, but I couldn't move. I was paralyzed by the profound, terrifying grief and shock etched across Richard Kensington’s face.

Then, Richard’s voice exploded across the silent ballroom, shaking the crystal chandeliers above us.

"Take your hands off her. Now."

Julian froze, his mouth hanging open in sheer bewilderment. "Sir?"

Richard didn't look at Julian. He didn't look at the senators, the CEOs, or the flashing cameras of the society photographers who had rushed over to capture the spectacle. His eyes were locked entirely on my face, brimming with an ocean of unshed tears that defied his decades of hardened public armor.

With a slow, deliberate, and utterly breathtaking movement, the seventy-two-year-old billionaire stepped forward, bypassed the stunned executives, and slowly dropped to his knees directly in front of me on the cold marble floor.

The entire ballroom fell into a tomb-like silence. You could hear the distant hum of the air conditioning.

Eleanor rushed forward, falling to her knees beside her brother, her hands trembling uncontrollably as she reached out, her fingertips hovering just inches from the silver half-sun resting against my skin.

May you like

And then, Eleanor whispered the words that made my blood run instantly cold, turning my entire universe upside down.

"We’ve been looking for you... for thirty years."
