Chapter 4 - The Eviction and the Arrest**

Two days later, discharged from the hospital with strict orders to rest, I returned to the downtown penthouse under the heavy protection of two private security guards and Detective Martinez.

The atmosphere inside the luxury residence was chaotic and desperate.

Ryan, Diane, and Brooke were still holed up inside the guest wing, assuming they could weather the storm by refusing to answer the door. They hadn't counted on the full weight of federal and state law enforcement acting in concert with corporate legal muscle.

When the private locksmith accompanied by building security and two uniformed police officers drilled the deadbolt of the guest suite door open, the three of them jumped up like cornered rats.

“What is the meaning of this?!” Diane shrieked, clutching her designer handbag as if it were a shield. “We are residents here! You can’t throw us out!”

I stepped into the doorway behind the officers, wearing a sharp white blazer and dark sunglasses, my posture completely unyielding.

“You aren't residents, Diane. You’re criminal trespassers,” I announced, my voice echoing off the hardwood floors.

Ryan rushed forward, his face pale, his eyes bloodshot and pleading. “Claire! Please, baby, let’s talk about this! Don’t do this to your family! It was just a misunderstanding—Dad was drunk, we didn't mean to hurt you—”

“Shut up, Ryan,” I snapped, cutting him off completely.

Detective Martinez stepped forward, holding up a pair of heavy steel handcuffs with a cold, professional smirk.

“Ryan Bennett and Grant Bennett, you are formally placed under arrest for second-degree felony assault, domestic violence, and grand larceny involving coordinated financial fraud,” Detective Martinez stated clearly.

Before Ryan could scream another word, the cold steel clicked shut around his wrists. Grant, emerging slowly from the master bedroom with a bewildered expression, was slapped with cuffs by the second officer.

Brooke started wailing hysterically, pulling out her phone to record, but one of the security guards firmly stepped in front of her lens. “Recording is prohibited on private federal-lien property, Miss Bennett.”

As the police hauled Grant and Ryan out of the penthouse in handcuffs down the private elevator, Diane collapsed onto the living room sofa, sobbing that her life was ruined.

I looked down at her with absolute indifference.

“You have forty-eight hours to pack your garbage and get out of my building,” I told her quietly. “If you aren't gone by Friday morning, I’ll have your clothes thrown into the public dumpster downstairs.”
