Chapter 3 - The Corporate Parasite**

By 9:00 AM on New Year’s Day, sitting in a private consultation room at St. Joseph’s Hospital with my IV drip removed and my baby resting safely, I placed a secure, encrypted call to Marcus Vance.

“Talk to me, Marcus,” I commanded, my voice cold and focused.

“Claire, it’s worse than I imagined,” Marcus began, his voice tense over the encrypted line. “Over the past eighteen months, while you were focused on your executive duties at the tech firm and managing your pregnancy, Ryan used a series of forged digital signatures and power-of-attorney documents to siphon company development funds and personal investment dividends from your pre-marital accounts.”

My breath caught in my throat. “How much?”

“Nearly two point four million dollars,” Marcus replied grimly. “And it gets worse. He didn't just stash it in a savings account. He funneled it directly into a shell corporation registered under his mother Diane’s name, and used your money to purchase three commercial real estate properties in downtown Boulder—all registered under LLCs controlled exclusively by Ryan and his sister Brooke.”

A cold fury washed over me, numbing the lingering pain of the cigarette burn on my abdomen. For three years, I had believed Ryan loved me for who I was, while I quietly bankrolled his luxury cars, his country club memberships, and his family’s extravagant lifestyle because he claimed his contracting business was going through a rough patch.

The truth was grotesque: Ryan wasn’t a struggling entrepreneur. He was an economic parasite who had systematically built a real estate empire using my hard-earned tech wealth, all while plotting to trap me in a marriage where I was nothing more than an unpaid maid and an ATM machine.

“Can we freeze those assets?” I asked, my tone deadly calm.

“Motions have already been drafted,” Marcus assured me. “Because those properties and shell companies were funded with traceable funds stolen via fraudulent wire transfers from your pre-marital accounts, we can slap emergency civil liens on every single square inch of their portfolio before the banks even open tomorrow morning.”

“Do it,” I said without hesitation. “Strip them down to their last dime. I want every single asset frozen, seized, and transferred back into my holding trust before the sun sets.”

“Consider it done, Claire. Let’s show these grifters what happens when you steal from the wrong executive.”
