Chapter 3 - Midnight Lockdown

Up in the penthouse, the gala was in full swing.

Champagne flowed like water. City councilmen, corrupt federal judges, and ruthless syndicate capos mingled beneath the crystal chandeliers, congratulating Dominic Moretti on his latest multi-million-dollar shipping monopoly expansion.

Vanessa moved through the crowd like a queen bee, draped in diamonds that Dominic had bought with corporate slush funds.

At precisely 11:59 PM, Dominic stood at the head of the ballroom, raising a glass of twenty-year scotch to toast the alliance. "To the Black Coast," he announced, his voice booming over the room. "Unbroken, unstoppable, and eternal."

Before he could take a sip, every light in the penthouse flickered violently, then died.

A heavy, suffocating darkness fell over the ballroom, pierced only by the emergency strobe lights flashing red along the floorboards. Murmurs of panic rippled through the elite crowd.

"What the hell is going on?" muttered Senator Vance, dropping his glass.

Dominic’s cell phone buzzed violently in his pocket. He pulled it out, his screen flashing an emergency override alert from the central server room downstairs.

*CRITICAL ERROR: MASTER ENCRYPTION PROTOCOL REPLACED. ALL PORT ASSETS FROZEN. COMPTROLLER ACCESS TERMINATED.*

Dominic’s face drained of all color. He tapped the terminal app, trying to log in with his administrator credentials.

*ACCESS DENIED. USER ID INVALID.*

"Dominic?" Vanessa hurried over through the dim red glow, her face twisted in confusion. "What's happening? The catering security systems just locked us inside!"

Before Dominic could answer, the massive projection screen at the front of the ballroom—meant to display a celebratory slideshow of Moretti Global—suddenly flickered to life.

The screen didn't show corporate graphs. It showed a single line of text typed in clean, merciless white font against a black background:

*“You forgot who held the pen, Dominic.”*

Beneath the text, a live video feed from the Port Authority terminal flashed on screen. Row after row of massive container cranes—the lifeblood of the Black Coast—came to a dead, synchronized halt. Red indicator lights blinked angrily across every pier from Boston to New York.

Marcus Vane’s voice echoed through the ballroom’s integrated audio speakers, calm and crystal clear:

*"Attention all syndicate personnel. Effective immediately, all Moretti shipping assets are under receivership of the Seraphina Trust. Any attempt to override will result in immediate federal asset seizure."*

Dominic stared at the screen, his chest heaving as the terrifying reality crashed down on him.

Seraphina hadn't just walked away. She had locked him out of his own kingdom.
