Chapter 4 - Bruno’s Desperate Betrayal**

Within an hour of the federal injunctions hitting the house, Bruno rushed through the front door in a state of absolute panic, his face slick with nervous sweat as he looked frantically between the sheriff deputies, Marcus, and me. He had spent the last forty-eight hours ignoring my calls, assuming his parents were untouchable and that I would eventually cave under pressure. Now, seeing his parents cornered and the house plastered with court-ordered asset notices, Bruno abandoned any pretense of a husband and immediately pivoted to self-preservation. He marched straight up to me, grabbing my arms before the deputies stepped in and shoved him back with a sharp warning. “Jade! What have you done?!” Bruno screamed, his voice cracking with hysterical disbelief. “You’re ruining my family! You’re putting my mother and father in legal jeopardy over some petty argument about money! Tell these people to drop the charges right now, or we are completely done!” I looked down at the man I had spent ten years supporting, feeling a profound wave of disgust wash over me. I didn't flinch, nor did I raise my voice. I simply looked him dead in the eye and said, “We were done the moment your mother put me in the hospital and you told me I deserved it, Bruno.” Marcus stepped forward, flipping open a separate financial ledger and holding it out toward my husband. “It’s actually much worse than you think, Mr. Marche,” Marcus said coldly. “Our forensic audit reveals that not only did your parents siphon millions from your wife’s trust, but you also personally signed off on fraudulent corporate withdrawals using her digital credentials while she was unconscious in the ICU. Your name is on the federal indictment warrants right alongside theirs.” Bruno went completely white, stumbling backward until his legs hit the sofa, his eyes widening in sheer terror as he realized his complicity had just guaranteed his own destruction.
