Chapter 4 - The Dining Room Clash

For the first three days of the cruise, I watched David and Lilia from a distance like a hawk monitoring its prey.

They lived in absolute luxury. They lounged by the infinity pool drinking hundred-dollar champagne, ordered room service twice a day, and booked expensive shore excursions at every port stop. They were living large, completely unaware that every single luxury charge they racked up—from the room service tips to the spa treatments—was being logged directly into my executive oversight terminal.

By the third evening, the inevitable karma train finally pulled into the station.

The main dining room of the Sea Star was a breathtaking hall of crystal chandeliers, polished silver, and soft violin music playing in the background. Hundreds of wealthy passengers dined in quiet elegance, attended by a brigade of attentive, hard-working waitstaff.

I was sitting at a private corner balcony table overlooking the main dining floor, sharing a quiet glass of wine with James, when the peace was violently shattered.

A sharp, shrill voice cut through the ambient classical music like glass scraping across tile.

"Are you completely brain-damaged, girl?! Look at this salad! There are walnuts in here, and I specifically told you I have a severe nut allergy! Do you want to kill me?!"

The entire dining room went dead silent. Heads turned in unison.

Down on the main floor, Lilia stood up aggressively from her table, towering over a young, trembling dining room server named Carmen. Poor Carmen—a sweet nineteen-year-old college student working her way through tuition—stood frozen, tears welling up in her eyes as she clutched a tray.

"I... I'm so sorry, ma'am, I'll bring a fresh one right away—" Carmen stammered, her voice shaking.

"Sorry doesn't cut it!" Lilia shrieked, slamming her napkin onto the table. "You are completely incompetent! I want you fired immediately! Get the manager over here right now, or I'll have your entire career ruined before it starts!"

David sat across from her, squirming uncomfortably in his seat, muttering, "Lilia, calm down, everyone's looking..."

"Shut up, David, grow a spine!" she snapped back, pointing a manicured finger right in Carmen's face.

I didn't wait another second. I stood up from my balcony table, smoothing down my navy blazer, and walked with deliberate, heavy strides down the grand staircase directly toward their table.

"Is there an issue here?" I asked, my voice ringing out clearly across the silent dining room.

Lilia whipped around, her face flushed with ugly fury. "Oh, good! Another manager! Listen to me, I want this pathetic excuse of a waitress fired on the spot. She tried to poison me, and her attitude is disgusting!"

I stepped in front of Carmen, gently placing a reassuring hand on the young girl's shoulder and guiding her back behind me. I turned to face Lilia, my eyes flashing with cold, hard steel.

"Carmen is one of our finest, most dedicated staff members in the entire fleet," I said, my voice dropping an octave, ringing with absolute authority. "She repeated your order back to you twice, and you neglected to mention your allergy until the plate hit the table. Furthermore, no employee of Morrison Maritime will ever be spoken to like garbage while I am standing in this room."

Lilia’s eyes narrowed into angry slits. She planted her hands on her hips, stepping right up to my face.

"How dare you speak to me like that?!" Lilia screamed, her voice cracking with rage. "Do you know who we are? We are VIP guests in your highest-tier Royal Suite! I demand your immediate termination! What is your name, you arrogant bitch?"

"My name is Marlene Morrison," I said clearly, staring straight into her wide, panicked eyes. "And I don't get terminated. I do the terminating."
