Chapter 5 - The Queen Claims Her Castle

Panic erupted inside the living room. Several dinner guests quietly set down their wine glasses, muttered apologies, and bolted out the front door into the night, desperate to distance themselves from a sinking ship of felonies and fraud.

"Officers, clear the premises," Harrison instructed calmly. "These individuals have no legal tenancy, no lease, and no ownership rights. They are unauthorized occupants on private property."

"Wait, wait, you can't do this right now! It's almost ten o'clock at night! Where are we supposed to sleep?!" Khloe wailed, grabbing a throw pillow as if it would protect her from reality.

"You can sleep wherever criminals usually sleep," I retorted sharply. "You have ten minutes to pack your personal belongings into trash bags. Not the furniture, not the electronics, not the luxury car in the driveway—just your clothes. Because the moment you step foot outside this door, the locks are changing permanently."

Julian tried to puff out his chest one last time, turning to the police officers with a desperate plea. "Officer, you can't let her do this! We have property here—"

"Step outside, sir. Now," the second police officer interrupted, taking Julian firmly by the elbow and guiding him toward the front entrance with unmistakable authority. The game was over. The bluff had failed. The house of cards built on cruelty and theft had completely collapsed.

For the next twenty minutes, the house echoed with the sound of slamming closet doors, frantic sobbing from Khloe, and the heavy thud of cheap luggage being zipped shut. Julian walked out the front door looking like a beaten dog, staring at the ground to avoid the neighborhood lights, while Khloe wept hysterically into her phone as she tried to call a cheap motel.

By 9:30 PM, the house was completely silent.

The police officers had departed after confirming the premises were cleared. Harrison and the forensic accountant packed up their briefcases, handing me the final audit summaries that would ensure every single dollar stolen from my mother was legally recovered through asset seizure.

The locksmiths finished replacing the deadbolts on every exterior door, handing me the fresh, heavy brass keys.

I stood alone in the center of the quiet, beautiful living room. The air no longer smelled of stale scotch and toxic panic. It smelled clean, quiet, and peaceful.

I pulled out my phone and dialed the boutique hotel downtown.

"Mom?" I said softly when she answered on the second ring.

"Sweetheart? Are you okay? What happened at the house?" her voice trembled with anxiety.

"Pack your overnight bag, Mom," I smiled, a profound wave of peace washing over my soul as I twirled the new house keys around my finger. "The house is empty. The parasites are gone. And your room upstairs is waiting for you."

There was a long, breathless pause on the other end of the line. Then, the sound of quiet, joyful weeping filled the speaker.

"I'm coming home, Mom," I whispered. "And you're never scrubbing another patio again."
