Chapter 5 - The Empire Strikes Back

Martha collapsed onto the velvet sofa, clutching her chest as if she were having a heart attack. "You can't do this!" she shrieked, her voice cracking with hysteria. "We are prominent members of this society! We run in the same circles! You can't just destroy us over a domestic disagreement!"
"Society?" Walter Vance stood up slowly, towering over them with an aura of absolute command. "You harassed, neglected, and physically endangered my only granddaughter while she was bringing my great-grandchildren into this world. You stepped over her body on a marble floor. You locked her inside like an animal. You don't belong in society, Martha. You belong in a courtroom—followed closely by a bankruptcy court."
At that exact moment, the private suite doors opened once more. Two medical professionals entered, wheeling a specialized twin bassinet containing two tiny, healthy, crying infants wrapped in pristine blue and pink blankets.
The sound of their healthy cries filled the room, piercing through the heavy tension like a bell of renewal.
"Mr. Vance," the head obstetrician smiled warmly, looking directly at my grandfather. "Both babies are stable, healthy, and showing exceptionally strong vitals. Congratulations. You have a grandson and a granddaughter."
Walter’s stern face immediately melted. He walked over to the bassinet, gently touching tiny, perfect fingers with a tenderness that completely contrasted with the ruthless businessman he had been moments before. He looked back at me, his eyes shining with unshed tears.
"You did brilliantly, Elara," he whispered, kissing my forehead. "Absolute perfection."
Then, he turned his attention back to the wreckage sitting across the room.
"David," Walter said evenly, not even raising his voice. "Escort Mr. and Mrs. Thorne out of this hospital. Make sure the property managers at their residence are waiting for them with the eviction notices. And inform their creditors that all liquidation auctions begin tomorrow morning at dawn."
"Gladly, sir," David said, stepping forward with a crisp, professional nod. He grabbed Travis by the arm, hoisting him out of the chair as if he weighed nothing at all, while Martha scrambled hysterically after them, clutching her gold watch and crying out empty threats that no one was listening to anymore.
As the heavy oak doors of Suite 901 clicked shut behind them, sealing out the noise, the greed, and the small-minded cruelty of the Thorne family forever, the room settled into a profound, beautiful peace.
The afternoon sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows, bathing the private suite in a warm, golden glow that stretched across the polished hardwood floors. I leaned back against the plush pillows, listening to the soft, steady breathing of my twins sleeping safely beside my bed.

They thought I was just a quiet, helpless wife they could push around. They didn't know that when you cross a Vance, you don't just lose an argument—you lose your entire world.
And as I held my babies close for the very first time, I knew one thing for absolute certain: the storm had finally passed, and the empire was entirely mine.
